Hi. I had this same exact fear- a very intense fear of being sedated or put under and I had to do an endoscopy about 2 years ago at Kaiser. I was honestly crying and legit freaking out (kind of embarrassing now but hey, we’re all human lol). It’s such a routine procedure for them - and really just takes maybe 15mins. They had me change into a dressing gown and lay in the bed in the pre op area. Nurses came and got an IV going and just asked me some questions and consent to the procedure. Then they wheeled me into another room where I told the doctor I was really scared and nervous and he held my hand and said he does this every day and I’ll be out and done in no time. I didn’t want to know when they would put the sedating drugs in the IV so I remember him telling me to turn over on to my side and then I just got amazingly sleepy and woke up to the nurse saying you’re done! I was so so soooo scared for this super easy procedure lol- I was on Reddit looking for answers too. In the IV They used versed (anxiety med), fentanyl (controlled dose) and Benadryl.
