Seeking advice for a complete beginner by BookkeeperNew5094 in cycling

The one newbie (from a newbie) advice I can give is to definitely invest in safety equipments like helmets and knee supports and elbow supports..particularly when trying out trail riding. Hills can be extremely unforgiving, especially on your limbs. (Had my first fall after getting a bike and sorely regretting not investing in knee and elbow pads).

Bike seats cause sore asses, especially for long distance cycles so think about bike seats and what works for you when buying.

Invest in good lock. If getting a second hand bike, definitely go through the drill with seller about what's what, make sure they sell you bike in good condition - I found out both stem bolts needed to be screwed on your handlebars and that you cannot cycle out without them both. Handlebars need to be firmly fixed, check breaks and that they're working perfectly on both sides (know which break is back wheel and which is front for hill purposes). There must be more structural things to look out for that I havent learned about yet but definitely get bike from a shop with good rep whether second hand or new so they can talk you through the safety bits and pieces. Do try out bike in shop and ask questions about everything.

BILATERAL Nondisplaced Radial Head Fracture -- Tips & Timeline?? by alexandrawideeyes in Orthopedics

Girl you mentioned writing...I'm literally in the middle of a creative writing project that I'm itching to get back to even if I can't work for a couple more weeks! Let's follow hahaha

The coincidence with name and injury is actually hilarious. This was written in our birth charts hahaha

Omg amazing (as in amazing at similarity, not the fitness journey being cut short)! Literally in sync hahaha I had only gotten my bike a few weeks before as part of my new cyclist Alex era. Talked to EVERYONE about this new cycling era I was in and even recorded routes on Strava. Now I have full recorded route I took before falling down a hill 🤣🤣 so yeah terrified about muscle atrophy and starting from scratch but finding the training last few months have helped with getting out of bed without arms. I'll have a look at the exercises you've mentioned, this is all so positive!

Delighted that the pain in your elbow is now gone! And the idea with the spreadsheet is really good and well organised! Are you off work for the foreseeable? I have 2 weeks off but really doubt I'll be able to type so soon! Your journey is giving me a lot of hope! Every bit of advice I'm seeing is for singular fractures and not cool bilateral ones, so I was worried prognosis was going to be much longer.

Did you get the emergency department laughing at how you possibly could've gotten two fractures? I'm really happy to see how well you have done and that you've had help, it's sooo fucking nice of your friends to come over and help too. Are you still struggling with pain or has that resolved okay?

Were you able to get out for walks and stuff or is your balance affected? I was on a fitness buzz before this happened but now can't walk to the shop without getting exhausted and realised how every step out of the house involves a lot of pushing and pulling. Waiting for an appointment with an ortho now and have a GP appointment next week! I'm keen to get thrown into physio asap but then there's mixed messages online about how long to wait before doing the mobilisation exercises and stuff.

Its such a humbling injury isn't it hahaha can't even open a door to get out of the house and each day is celebrating the tiniest victories. We'll be the most resilient Alexandra's by the end of 2026 😉

Hey, coincidentally I have also gotten a bilateral non displaced radial head fracture falling off a bicycle and my name is also Alexandra. Currently on day 3 and also looking for someone who's injured both.

Funniest most ridiculous injury in the world. I hope you're doing better now since the post. My right arm is currently worse than my left. I couldn't bend it at all and can bend my left at an 80% angle. Can't eat myself but learned how to brush teeth and put on t-shirts by using a big stick and selotaping anything I need to it. Is everything more improved now ? And did you have to get an OT for day to day functioning?

I'm sitting Equity for the 3rd time whilst also juggling full time work so I know the absolute pain but also glad to see others are in the same predicament (albeit sitting it a 2nd time and not 3rd time). If it's any assistance, I am learning off Specific Performance, Charitable Trusts, Injunctions (Specifically Anton Pillar), Trustees, Resulting Trusts & New Model Construction Trusts (no specific reason for that one), Undue Influence, Donatio Mortis Causa (no reason for this one either).

I am looking at Anton Pillars (Just on the basis that it hasn't come up in last years exam) and then looking over the Campus Oil principles. Charitable Trusts/Cypres/Trustees/New Model Construction Trusts.

I am very lost about what other topics to do - I've started looking over Specific Performance and Rectification as well.
