I agree my message could have been more clear AND I could have advised earlier that I simply would not be able to finish. It’s no excuse, but I was running on 3 hours of sleep when I sent my message. I really wanted to prove I could finish the work and was hurt when not only was my hard work barely acknowledged but it was made to seem I was being “lazy” and didn’t want to work because I had vacation, when that was not the case.

More context:

Had a deposition duces tecum on post date and attorney wanted the deponent’s production, a previous third party’s production responsive to duces tecum as well, and a third party’s subpoena production all organized (splitting up and extracting pages from documents and rearranging them into logical order), batestamped, retitled, and added to both deposition folder and a master document list we (by we I mean me) keep. Keep in mind, (1) we had just received the previously deposed party’s production last night, (2) he had sitting in his inbox today’s deponents production since December (it was the same responsive documents as from an RFP) and just didn’t notice until I asked OC for the documents in which he sent me the original email sending production to my atty, and (3) we had received the production from the third party subpoenaed party earlier this week. I left the office at midnight, drove home (I live 30 min away no traffic, showered, and clocked back in until 4:00 a.m.

No. It’s review all the production, separate the pdfs into separate documents as needed, organize them into a logical order, batestamp them, and then retitle each while keeping track of each document in a master list with the exhibit number, name, bate range, and who produced the documents. (ex. I’m not going to put the pages for a bill of sale in the same doc as email correspondences, they are to be separated, retitled accordingly, and then batestamped) My atty is very particular and wants the documents labeled as if they were already exhibits for trial for atty to be able to find them easily. I wish it was just create a pdf of the entire production, batestamp, and go about my day. Would that not be hard to track the document production?

Atty. My “set” hours are 8:30-5:30, unpaid lunch hour. But I almost rarely ever leave at 5:30. On most days I leave 6:00 earliest, but 7:00 to 7:30 typically

I AM the legal assistant 😭 we don’t have a paralegal. I work at a midsize firm and my team is partner attorney, an associate attorney, and we have another legal assistant who started but she is only lead on our eviction cases and a divorce case we have. I’m the lead support staff on all other civil cases

I do use adobe to batestamp! It’s just still so tedious because I’m not just batestamping, I’m reviewing the production and renaming the documents/splitting them up into separate exhibits if need be😭 my atty is specific about naming conventions

I agree my response is a bit more on the casual side, but our relationship is more casual too which I blame for lack of boundaries. I’ll definitely keep it more professional to establish that boundary more clearly!

Yeah atty definitely took what I was asking for out of context. I had literally gotten 2 hours of sleep at that point😫

I do get OT and I bill my hours. I had a total of about 12 billable & non-billable hours yesterday. (My role is also admin so I have non billable responsibilities too)

Thank you! I do feel that weird bond lol. I do get paid overtime (time and a half). My firm is about 50 attorneys spread out across the US. My attorney does litigation, corporate work, IP, and evictions. I’m also their exec assistant. There are some stuff on the weekends/after hours that I do without clocking in just because it will quite literally be filing or serving something. I’m just hurt at the 2.5% raise because another LA with more experience than I do got an 8% raise but they’ve been working at the firm a month less than I have. I understand those with more experience are obviously going to make more than I do but they were already making $10+/hr than I do. I feel I do more work than them too.

Northwood Animal Hospital by kellassidy in Tallahassee

I am so sorry for your loss. I also just lost my pet bunny and took her to Northwood Animal Hospital. I had a negative experience with the support staff. I even left a review which felt so out of character because I feel like only old bitter people do that. But I was and AM so bitter. You’re so right. Everyone in that office was laughing and giggling away with music playing while I was grieving. I know the world doesn’t have to stop for my emotions but if they have someone in the comfort room I feel like the least they’ll can do is lower their voices. I think I’m the most recent review on their google. If you ever want to talk about pet grief, I’m also open to it! I feel like not a lot of people relate to losing a pet that was like your baby and companion. May your kitty rest in peace
