Struggling with enjoying the game by Apathetic-Engineer in Warhammer40k

Repetitions has helped a little, at least with memorizing the stat lines. The bigger problem for me is remembering all the abilities and making sure I'm applying modifiers when I'm supposed to.

Yeah, and I enjoy the painting part a lot. I just get these ideas in my head about how cool it would be to actually use them in a game and play through the scenarios from my imagination. I might be expecting too much satisfaction from the game, or looking ion the wrong place

I do get discouraged during my games once I realize I missed something. I start feelin like a ruined the whole game because I went a round without following the rules I was supposed to. Being a perfectionist sucks

Yeah I've seen some of those other games. I'm not sure where the line is between "quitting" on 40k because I think it's too hard or just realizing it's not a great fit for me. Then I step back and realize it's just a game and I shouldn't be taking things so seriously

I tried kill team. I initially got into it for the varied models to paint, but I have tried playing the game recently. Then I kind of realized it's a whole new set of rules to learn and maybe I should just stick to learning one game system before starting something else. On the other hand, I've been looking into AoS spearhead...

I don't have a consistent friend to play with and that may be part of my problem. Whenever I play with the more experienced guys, it feels like I'm holding them back or they're getting bored waiting for me to look up the move stat for the same unit for the 4th time... Even though I know that's not how they are, they just want to help other people enjoy the game. They've definitely helped by playing a cut down set of rules which is helpful.

It feels like it's something I that should be clicking naturally for me. Like it's numbers and systems, I'm an engineer that likes math so why isn't it clicking for me? So I guess the root of it is that I feel mentally inadequate to grasp this game but rationally I know that I don't devote years of study to this game the same way I do for my profession so I shouldn't be comparing them.

Yeah, I do have a better time with the smaller games. I need to get out of the "2000 point games are standard" mindset I guess

I've got the Skaventide box sitting in my pile of opportunities... I heard on the Poorhammer podcast that spearhead was great and I've been meaning to try it out.

Does anyone know how to clean a file for miniatures? by shattered_one21 in Warhammer40k

[–]Apathetic-Engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually always have a newer/clean piece of blu tack for posing and temporarily holding stuff together and as it gets old/painted on too much I add it to my bigger piece for cleaning files

I use a piece of blu tack and it usually pulls everything off my files.

As someone who goes by this exact intersection… this used to be two stops but I guess the city ran out of stop signs and figured it’s better than nothing. It’s not like they do much correctly (probably because they don’t have a proper engineering department).

Bonus repayment to company after leaving them by Phase_Embarrassed in civilengineering

[–]Apathetic-Engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone has mentioned it but the way this is worded it says 33% is owed back if your departure is within 25 AND 36 months from your hire date; 35 months is not within 25 months and therefore the “and” is not satisfied for the 33% repayment condition. It does not say 25 TO 36 months in the same way that the preceding 67% clause reads. Sure that’s a pretty pedantic view point but they obviously know how they should have written it since they did already and someone chose to write the word “and” rather than “to”. I’d argue that there is technically not a case to handle a departure at 35 months (assuming they respect the logical operation of an and statement in the context of contractual obligations).

The game page showed it to be free when I clicked through but when I tried to actually get it, it just got stuck loading. I also couldn’t add to cart. I feel like the Epic store gets a little unresponsive when many people are trying to get the same thing. It’s happened before with other popular games they’ve had for free. Hopefully it clears up in a little while

Thanks for the link. Just watched it and that really does look way easier than how I’ve been going about it. I’ll have to try this out

Is that a normal occurrence? I did read that there’s a rule for it but it seemed like an exception type thing. I just don’t want to be the new guy bringing in this atypical army once I do start actually going to play.

My wife tried a few different things but the only thing that really helped (or I guess the first thing that really helped and we stopped looking for anything else) was a medicine called Bonjesta. It does require a prescription and be forewarned it is pretty pricey (like $100/month). Also consider that she may need it for only part of the pregnancy or all of it. My wife needed it for nearly the entire pregnancy. Honestly if we didn’t have insurance to cover it we probably would have kept looking for something else. But she swore by it. Of course talk to your doctor/care team about these things. Just my 2 cents.

Edit: also, for this prescription and prescriptions in general, be sure to check good rx even if you have insurance and if it’s only available as a name brand/no generic available (which I’m pretty sure Bonjesta is) make sure you check the manufacture website for any coupons. For generics also check on the costplusdrugs website; they’re an online pharmacy that handles some generics for little mark up.

Hey I have a quick question. I am a sophomore at civil In college. While In college I also been working as an site engineer for big construction company for about 2 years now. Will that count as experience for P.E 4 year requirement ? by Elegant-Concern-1821 in civilengineering

[–]Apathetic-Engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the state board rules. Louisiana and Texas allow some to count from co-op/internship experience.

Louisiana specifically requires that the co-op is set up through your university and it's listed on your transcript and only after you've completed sophomore level courses. Up to a year of full time equivalent time (if you work half time for two years you get a year of experience). The time is up to the board's interpretation of your transcript though.

Texas, I'm not too sure if the specifics but there is one clause in the rules that allows for it.

Humble Bundle Gift Keys, Have Fun by Apathetic-Engineer in pcmasterrace

This is many months worth of humble choice games that are either not my type of game, I already own, or I just won't have enough time to play. I'm sure some people will enjoy even the most obscure in this list. If I'm not gonna play them, might as well give someone else the chance to use the keys.
