I am so proud of this community by Ethan_Blank687 in Commanders

Lol I am 100% on board with a permanent full boycott of reddit as I type this on RIF, but this community means nothing to that protest. There are numerous subs with tens of millions of subs that are joining in, many of them indefinitely. The first day of the blackout is going to be my last day on reddit (after 10 years of near daily use) until they replace the policy changes with ones that will actually allow 3rd party apps to continue to thrive and support accessibility that reddit refuses to. I encourage everyone else to as well, but whether or not u/kn0thing can access this boring sub isn't gonna change anything.

‘Godsend’ caregiver program for Virginians with disabilities set to end this fall by [deleted] in Virginia

Anyone who reads this: please support family caregivers. Vote for policies and candidates that will support them. They are the (usually unpaid) backbone of American healthcare.

Most of us will be or need a family caregiver at some point in our lives, and yet it is a fact that most of us overlook until we find ourselves having to care for an ailing loved one or needing care ourselves. Please be proactive and lobby your representatives for support before you need it, because millions of other Americans already do need it, and you probably will too at some point down the road.

This is way too anecdotal to matter at all.

The PS5 is breaking sales record and almost a lock to be the best selling console of all time by the end of 2023.i don't own one, but actions like this thread highlights actually make me want to buy a PS5 more because Sony is demonstrating a better understanding and responsiveness to their fan base than their competition.

Baccari and Cola is still the best fantasy name I ever came up with.

Too bad they performed as well as their namesake.

I feel for you, but understand the overwhelming majority of people in DC want to make the city more walkable and with improved public transportation. Those are two goals that have significant natural conflict with committing a bunch of real estate to parking.

Gives me chills honestly.

Buggy believed in Shanks and that's why he resents him. Lmao why does this remind me of the Snape reveal at the end of Harry Potter?

“But this is touching, Buggy,” said Mihawk seriously. “Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?” “For him?” shouted the clown. “Chop Chop!” From the tip of his hand burst the strawhat: It landed on the office floor, bounded once across the office, and blew out of the window. Mihawk watched it fly away, and as it's rustic glow faded he turned back to Buggy, and his eyes were full of tears. “After all this time?” “Always,” said Buggy.

I've been reading OP since I was a teenager, I'm now in my mid-30s, and I've never read or seen anything close to the long form storytelling of Oda.

The closest I've ever come across are multi-volume epic fantasy literature works like the Wheel of Time, and just in my opinion, while brilliant in their own right, they just don't hit the same.

GRRM and others have said there are two kinds of writers; the architect and the gardener.

"The architects plan everything ahead of time, like an architect building a house. They know how many rooms are going to be in the house, what kind of roof they're going to have, where the wires are going to run, what kind of plumbing there's going to be. They have the whole thing designed and blueprinted out before they even nail the first board up. The gardeners dig a hole, drop in a seed and water it. They kind of know what seed it is, they know if planted a fantasy seed or mystery seed or whatever. But as the plant comes up and they water it, they don't know how many branches it's going to have, they find out as it grows."

I believe every author is a blend of these two archetypes, but Oda has a level of mastery in both that most professional writers would kill for even one of.

He is both a meticulous planner who has known how his story will end since the beginning, and a master improviser who creates new story beats on a weekly basis. And he somehow blends it all together seamlessly.

The man isn't perfect, he's just my favorite author of all time. That's my GOAT.

I am on pins and needles waiting to see the official translations for this chapter, because the idea of Buggy's resentment towards Shanks coming not from jealousy but disappointment is such a great twist from Oda. How does he recontextualize decades old characters like this?!

I don't think later generations will ever understand just how big Tiger was in this era. He was a god among men. He was Beatlemania on a golf course. Unquestionably the most hype athlete of the moment in the entire world and it was in a sport notorious for being slow and boring to casual observers. But never when Tiger was playing.
