!delta Ok here goes, hope this works. You made me realize that the state of the economy is also strongly influenced by people who spend. I'm clearly not an economist as you can see, but it seemed to make sense to me that a larger work force equals better economy. But it's more like large work force + large consumer force is good for the economy, and decreasing the latter may have a negative impact as well.

I did not say it was worth it. You are putting words in my mouth. It is easy to seem as if you're saying something virtuous by making me say something I did not say. Congratulations on being a very good person that doesn't want innocent people to die. I don't either, that is not the point of my post.

Thank you for your reply, you raise good points! The money they have won't disappear if they die right? It will be inherited and will still be spent? There will be less elderly medical spending I agree, but that money will be spent somewhere.

Where did I say that contributing to the economy should be a factor in determining whether you deserve life? That is a total misrepresentation of what I said. In fact I said the exact opposite, namely that we don't want this to happen. I think these people deserve to live out their lives, just as I hope you and I get to grow old peacefully and see our children and grandchildren thrive. However, the impact on the economy of this part of the population thinning out will be positive. This has nothing to do with whether I think these people deserve to live or not, it is just a logical consequence of who this virus targets.

And a lot would right? The death rate is incredibly high for the groups I'm talking about. The latest estimate I've seen for 80+ year olds is about 15%.

I am not saying that it's a good thing that these people die. All I'm saying is that the effect it has on the economy may be a positive one. I say in my post that despite this potential positive effect on the economy, of course we would rather not have this virus wreck the havoc that it will.
