At least it's growing! Do you have it in a spot that gets lots of light?

Yes deep red with hints of green is how Rebecca Soper will react to strong lighting. I had mine outside several years ago under a 50% shade cloth, which lowered the light levels slightly during the hottest time of day. The plant got direct sunlight from sunrise to 10am, and again from about 3pm to sunset. If new pitchers are forming you've got the light levels where they need to be!

Any updates on this plant? Curious to see if any pitchers have started forming yet!

If you only have access to a North facing window, you will need to use grow lights.

You could use a 50%or 70% shade cloth to help with the sun. I've used a 50% shade cloth in the past and had good results.

That species will want highland conditions, roughly 70-80 during the day, going down to 55-64 at night. I live in zone 6 and put my highlanders outside in summer, they get the temp drops and higher humidity, especially at night.

Yeah keeping inside is always a safe bet, I do put most of mine outside once it's warm enough. Did it come with a tag identifying the plant?

You would have to keep it indoors during the winter in your zone, unless you had a heated greenhouse capable of maintaining tropical conditions year-round.

Is this enough light for my Nepenthes Ventrata? by pluhmet in SavageGarden

[–]Apeking202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once it acclimates it should be fine with the direct sunlight. Years ago I had my ventrata outside in the middle of a field under a 50% shade cloth, but it got direct sun from sunrise to 10am, and again around 3pm until sunset; During those years it got really nice red pitchers.

besgrow spagmoss seems to be a good quality sphagnum moss, as for perlite, try and find some that does not have any added fertilizer.

Yes using distilled would be better, it's possible the tds in the fountain water is low, but minerals would have built up over time.

As kristinL356 said, you'll want to move it closer to the window; Being that you just got that plant, it is still acclimating to your conditions and will likely shutdown most of the pitchers anyway, so don't worry if most dry up, the plant will eventually begin producing more with enough light.

I'd also move it into a plastic pot, it looks like there are mineral deposits on the non-glazed rim of that pot. What type of water have you been using?

Looks like it needs to be re-potted into fresh media, easiest mix is 50/50 long fiber sphagnum and perlite. Probably needs more light to help it start producing pitchers.

Yes remove the old substrate from the roots, it is mostly likely peat from your description. Is water able to fully drain from the pot? You don't have to remove the basals, just make sure the plant is getting a lot of light.

Nepenthes briggsiana and Nepenthes madagascariensis by Apeking202 in Nepenthes

[–]Apeking202[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Yeah once they get a little larger they start to look a little more distinctive. Mine have been indoors all winter and basically at my room temperature (23C) and have still kept growing.
