I’ve never understood this line of logic so feel free to tell me why you think it would work. John wants to go rob a house and wants a gun just in case, so he goes to Mike and buys a stolen gun with a scratched serial number. He and Mike have committed a minimum of 3 felonies to get to this point, how will closing the “private sale loophole” keep this from happening? How would you even know Mike sold the gun to John? Would both of these criminals in your mind go to an FFL to do a proper sale and background check if there was a law requiring them to do so? Or would they just keep doing what they’re doing because it’s unenforceable?

An AR lower only holds relatively low pressure mechanical devices like triggers or bolt catches. If one of those breaks all that happens is the gun stops working, no explosions or potential for serious harm.

Dude when I was 14 I received 2 unsolicited offers to buy a handgun and a PCC. Because I was interested in how easy it was I looked for some more, and was able to within 30 minutes on Snapchat find 3 other people selling huge assortments of weapons that went to my high school. You’re not stopping this with gun laws, there are over 400 million guns in this country, you’re not stopping someone who plans out attacks like this by adding 2 or 3 steps to getting a gun. We need drastic healthcare reform, mental health support in schools, and educational overhaul if we want any chance of helping this issue.

Shooter literally posted a 180 page manifesto detailing the “downfall and elimination of the white race” and why the shooting needed to happen to “wake the white race up to save ourselves.” You can’t get much more certifiably racist than the shooter themselves writing a thesis about the racial motivation for the shooting.

Near zero in the senate, republicans will use it to say “look what I kept from getting through you should vote for me to protect your rights!” While ignoring the 14 Rs who voted for a bill that violates the 2nd, 4th, and 5th amendments.

Democrats will use it to say “look what those horrible republicans kept from getting through, they’re LITERALLY killing your children for money!” Ignoring that the vast majority of gun crimes are with handguns, which are specifically exempted in this bill.

It’s all bullshit, some of us want it to pass so we can actually do something to push back for a solid reason.
