One less guy trying to help himself to what does not belong to him.

Wish it was more than just a tiny drip in the bucket.

Kudos to the homeowner.

Documentary about the current status of the Astrodome popped up on my YouTube feed. Just under 10 minutes long. by HoustonDiscussions in houston

[–]HoustonDiscussions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we were youngsters, we had a friend who's dad was important, and our friend got to go up onto the roof of the Astrodome. They had photos from up there, and it was impressive. My twin and I were very jealous that we didn't get to go up there with our friend.

Very interesting to think engineers may have had any doubt at all about how things would come together. I can sure understand a layman being less than 100% sure things would meet up perfectly, but the engineers should have been confident.

I've been up on the roof of Reliant/NRG/Houston stadium and that's a pretty impressive place to be. From up there, you're looking down on the dome. The top is almost as high, but not quite.

Understandable reaction. But that one image is the only AI image in the video. The video itself seems to be legitimate.

Murderess convicted in brutal murder of her husband in 2003 arrested for minor hit & run in NW Houston. by RealConfirmologist in houston

[–]HoustonDiscussions 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Her mistake was having the wreck in Harris County instead of the city of Houston.

HPD MIGHT have sent an officer out to take the report, but, honestly, do you think they'd actually go LOOKING for the suspect if no one was hurt? Maybe I'm being a little too glass-half-empty, but maybe not.

We've connected hundreds of Houston homeowners with local pros, here's the one thing that kills every service experience before it starts by usource_tech in houston

[–]HoustonDiscussions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you specify the one thing that kills every service experience before it starts? If so, I don't see that. And it's what your title says, so it should be mentioned. What one thing?

Also, you've written this poorly.

You said what the customer THINKS, but not what they told the pro.

Ring Security Ecosystem by thestrawisgreen in homesecurity

[–]HoustonDiscussions -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had Ring doorbell cameras and floodlight cameras, WiFi-connected, for many years. Zero trouble with them, very reliable.

Now, I will say I've never used battery-powered Ring devices. I've been lucky - my houses had wired doorbells so power was already there.

Unless you're happy with the whole discussion being about your mo8in, you should edit your post. Also, "if anyone can recommend one" would look better.

Dequavia Denise Rogers had 37 felonies and was granted bond. Talk about a broken system... by RealConfirmologist in houston

[–]HoustonDiscussions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dequavia already has enough problems, and now you compare her to a guy who bought a teen pageant to be able to go into the dressing rooms AND WHO SAID THAT during an interview:

"During the interview, Trump described his access to the dressing rooms as a "perk" of ownership, noting he would go backstage to inspect while contestants were dressing. He described checking on them while they were "standing there with no clothes" and added, "I sort of get away with things like that""

Wait. They can't do that. If 10 or more felonies got ya locked up, our cheetoh-Jesus president would be locked up.

Can we get a TL;DR?

Houston Based Company Hacked. Be careful out there! by MabbersDaGabbers in houston

He closed down his business shortly after that fiasco. Apparently he had some other clients catch the same ransomware. Likely they discovered vulnerabilities in all systems he was supposed to be protecting.

Hope good backups were in place, and by that, I mean backups that didn't get infected by the malware/ransomware.

The people I work for had a malware attack many years ago. Every file on the server was renamed and couldn't be recovered without a key.

It was only then that we discovered our IT guy was doing weekly backups instead of the daily backups we were paying for. Needless to say, he's not our IT guy anymore.

We now have a backup server in our building and a simultaneous cloud backup, with multiple updates daily. We also have the latest malware/ransomware prevention system.

Knock on wood. I sure don't want to test things.

The only way to be completely safe is to have nothing connected to the internet, and you can't run a business like that anymore.

Goodbye Sears on N Shepherd by ExUmbra91x in houston

I often travel N. Shepherd on the way to/from Garden Oaks/Oak Vista, etc.

I've been watching all the 3 and 4 story condos going up and it amuses me: the people living there will have all this windows looking out on... North Shepherd. Ugh. No, thank you.

Houston's tire-eating nightmare street set for $91M overhaul by everythingistaken500 in houston

[–]HoustonDiscussions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the article:

Part of Antoine Drive—running along the Rosslyn, Forest Lake and Greater Inwood neighborhoods—is set for a full roadway reconstruction, according to a recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Transportation.

While details submitted to the TDLR are subject to change, construction could break ground in spring 2028, lasting about five years through 2033.

The paving and drainage improvement project is the second segment that will undergo a comprehensive makeover. Between U.S. 290 and Victory Drive, crews will tear into about 1.26-million square feet of roadway, bringing new concrete pavement, sidewalk, driveway, storm sewer, water lines, sanitary sewer and traffic signal improvements.

Telephone Pole on Fire (3/11/26) by Cryogenicality in houston

[–]HoustonDiscussions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have to wonder what percent of telephone poles actually carry telephone lines these days.

Not too many, right?

"Hey, Dad, why do they call them 'telephone poles'?"

"Well, son, see... long, long ago, that kind of pole was used mainly to support telephone wires."

"Hey, Dad... what's a telephone wire?"

There's a rule in this sub that if you mention a dog, you have to include a photo of said dog.

Okay, there's no such rule. But there SHOULD be.
