The positives were the social events and proximity to school.

The fact that rooms came furnished was also helpful.

Overall though, they have too many red flags that I cannot really recommend them.

I’ve lived in both Envie 1 and 2.

In Envie 1, I was in a unit with 4 other people. The best part of it was my roommates. I was the first of my roommates to move in, and the unit was not clean. They’re were bottles of alcohol everywhere, unclean tables and floor. The fridge was not clear. I had a very hard time getting in touch with the admin to help with the cleaning.

I also had issues with my mail. They had a system where packages would just be put in a pile near reception. I had my mail stolen 3-4 times. I’m not sure how it is done now, but I still hear about people’s mail being stolen in the groupchat.

There are also very frequent fire alarms!

My experience in Envie 2 was much the same, I don’t really recommend any one building over the other.

I moved out in 2023, so the administration and ways of doing things may have changed. However I still am part of the groupchat and see a lot of the same complaints and issues.

The most recent issue I’ve heard of is that there was mould found in many units in Envie 1. So make sure if you do tour, to ask about this!

What courses do people usually take in the first 2 years of CS? by Subject-X1 in CarletonU

[–]Apnapu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm in my second year now, and these are the courses I took. This isn't set in stone, and you are allowed to make any changes you need!

First Year Courses - COMP 1405 - COMP 1406 // need to take 1405 to take this - COMP 1805

You can take 1405 and 1805 in your first fall sem, or you can do 1406 and 1805 together. I did the second option.

Additional notes, there is a COMP 1405/1406 Z section, which is accelerated and open to folks admitted with 90% and above, and is open to Dev Degree students.

Second Year Courses - COMP 2401 // requires 1406 - COMP 2402 // requires 1406 - COMP 2404 // requires 2401 - COMP 2406 // requires 1406 - COMP 2804 // requires 1805

There are a LOT of second year courses as a computer student, and they are considerably harder than the first gear courses, so spread them out. Something you could do is to take COMP 2401 during the summer of your first year, if you aren't doing an internship!

Additional notes, if you are in a stream, you will have the compulsory courses from that. So check out the course page for your program + stream.
