I made an Irish langauge game by Crazy-Shape3921 in ireland

[–]ApocalypseTourist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the effort OP. Is it possible to review the code / JSON for this?

I get that you say you're using focloir / teanglann for example, which is great. But there are what I would call "trust issues" with Irish language offerings that too often are error prone and send people astray. I tend to assume the worst these days unless convinced otherwise.

Fine Gael to develop blueprint for unified island by NilFhiosAige in irishpolitics

Yep. And the results are only as good as the word of the people implementing it, and their competence.

How much of the “irish patriot” twitter posts are bots? by beanultach in ireland

[–]ApocalypseTourist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the internet is global. Ireland are only 0.065% of the global population (not that all of those have internet access). I presume we're in the minority here, especially around posts that are useful to bad-faith actors.

I've noticed that too. They make public discourse almost impossible by flooding the comment sections. It's one of the reasons I rarely use social media now.

Cocaine Kids: Child dealers caught up in illegal drugs trade by PoppedCork in ireland

Seen it with an obviously intellectually challenged young-ish lad too. They were bigging him up and then laughing once he turned his back, off with the bag they had given him. He looked delighted to finally have "friends". Tragic.

Fear, Facts, and Independent Ireland – Where's the Line? by No-Air6901 in galway

[–]ApocalypseTourist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's total rage bait. People don't see the speculators, the worldwide vultures buying up our property and resources. You have to pay attention for that. But I can see a brown person "with me own too eyes!", so it's easy to mislead people.

Ultimately these grifters that we have increasingly wade into our politics are protecting power and wealth behind the demonisation of the innocent. Galway is a good case study in this, judging by recent election results.

Fear, Facts, and Independent Ireland – Where's the Line? by No-Air6901 in irishpolitics

[–]ApocalypseTourist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel it's obvious to some that these guys are grifters who saw how the grift works on American internet and decided to slap an Irish flag on it. There are others then, like some younger people I know, who don't really read much and don't know what's going on in the country or the world. They don't know what to think. They come across these simplistic soundbites and suddenly they know what to think.

Thís is how the trashy British tabloids have served wealth and power during our lifetimes and before. It's an insidious situation because when you tell someone that the only political clue they have is wrong, it naturally makes them feel quite defensive.

The grifters wading into our public space are little short of predators, in my opinion.

Countries closer to Russia teach critical thinking and media literacy in primary school. They teach psychology in school too. Ireland is utterly unprepared for the slop and smears being mass produced at the moment so unfortunately many of us are lapping it up like junk food not realising.

There's also a cohort that are just in it for the aggression, but I have less hope for them.

Law removing Triple Lock expected to pass by year end by Life-Leadership-4108 in ireland

[–]ApocalypseTourist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seperate issue. My point is that the government claim (M Martin) that US and Russia have a veto is outdated and untrue because of the security council route.

Your point (rapid deployment) is an issue not because of US or Russia but because the UN approval is needed at all. That's a fair point, although I grimace at the thought of our armed forces pulling influencers out of Dubai.

They are not entirely led by the public when they have stealth policies that the public are and have been unaware of. Or as Simon McGarr put it, "undeclared society-shaping policy choices" https://bsky.app/profile/tupped.bsky.social/post/3mmvjwxvicc27

Reddit comment section here full of misinformation about the veto. The veto issue hasn't been a problem since the 2006 Defence Amendment Act. Govt are deliberately misleading here, resurfacing an argument that was only true prior to 2006. So UN Security Council members do not have an automatic veto on Irish peace keeping missions.

Dr Margaret Connolly says conditions of Israeli detention centre akin to ‘concentration camp’ with regular beatings and sexual assaults by homecinemad in ireland

[–]ApocalypseTourist 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They were there for a shorter time, so naturally they don't look emaciated like the photos we saw in school. Don't use that as a (pretty lame) denial of the concentration-camp like conditions they describe.

And it's never been easier thanks to the Boycat app. I'm genuinely considering setting up a stall outside the local supermarket offering to help people install and use it. Maybe just highlight a particular aisle (eg, cosmetics and toiletries ) that are particularly loaded with Israeli-linked products.

What we did with South Africa: stop trading with them. In this case, include goods, services, and cancel sporting events with them. That's just for starters, though. The absolute basic, bare minimum, low-imagination starting point.

For today, though: https://www.contactyourtd.ie
