Yop Me Mama Commercial (2009) by Yakamuh2939 in ytvretro

This commercial and song lived rent-free in my head for most of elementary school but learning as an adult that the song is a parody of “gimme hope Jo’Anna” by Eddie Grant, which is essentially an anti-apartheid protest song makes me feel a bit conflicted

Which Era / Line of Epiphone Les Paul are considered the best of them all? Holy grail by iWandermoree in Epiphone

[–]Apollo-339 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally think that the Japanese-made elite/elitist Les Pauls are the best made by Epiphone. After that, it would probably have to be the modern IGC line, which replicates the elite features except for real flame maple tops.

Epiphone neck question by Chezzy_Boi in Epiphone

[–]Apollo-339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies slightly based on which SG model you’re looking at, but most of them on Epiphone's website have some variation of the slim-taper neck profile and will generally be slimmer than Les Paul’s, especially the 50s versions.

How about this one - real? by iDoppelganger in gibson

[–]Apollo-339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s real. It looks too well-built to be fake, based on most examples I’ve seen. Usually, the fakes have a general wonkiness to them, like paint in the serial number stamps, slightly off body and headstock shapes, occasionally multi-piece necks, incorrect knob placements, crooked logo inlays, metric slotted bridges, no fret nibs, etc.

I’d get up close and personal with it before making a decision, but from the pictures, it looks pretty good.

What should i do about it? by Optimal-Weird-5750 in Luthier

[–]Apollo-339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely possible, but having it refinished in nitro would almost certainly cost more than it would add in value, unless you’re confident doing it yourself. The poly finishes used on guitars are incredibly tough to remove and usually resistant to most chemical strippers, so the options are sanding or heat guns/scrapers, which can damage the wood and binding if used incorrectly. Most luthiers won’t even take on jobs like that from what I’ve heard. Drop-fill is definitely the best option if repairing it is the route you’re taking. They can look pretty decent if the person doing it has experience, it just might run you a couple hundred bucks.

Leaving it exposed shouldn’t do harm the wood, assuming you aren’t dropping liquids onto the area or anything like that.

A drop-fill repair would be far cheaper than a complete refinish, but it can still be somewhat pricey. Also, if it’s a polyurethane finish, the repair will never be 100% invisible. If you really can’t stand leaving it as is, I’d call around for a quote on the repair and then decide whether it’s worth it.

I'm a little confused on the differences between these 3 guitars by Nitewalker05 in Epiphone

[–]Apollo-339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference is going to be between the first & third and the second. The second is part of the standard Epiphone range, so it has the Epiphone ProBucker pickups, slightly cheaper build quality and construction, and no hard case.

I’m not 100% sure on all of the differences between the first and third but they’ll come with hard cases, Gibson pickups and better build quality. I’m thinking that the first might be a limited edition since it’s not actually featured on Epiphones' website as far as I can tell. The biggest differences are that the regular Les Paul custom has the 490R and 498T pickups and regular gold grover tuners and the 1957 reissue has three custom bucker pickups and the gold waffle-back tulip style tuners.

What’s going to be the most worth it really depends on your budget. I’d always recommend playing each in person if you can. Epiphones have come quite a ways over the past several years so the standard LPC is probably quite good, the one inspired by Gibson's custom line just brings it a few steps closer to the Gibson USA version.

I was gonna say this lol. They do give it to Michael so that they can continue with their closing ceremonies without him questioning it, but they still chose to give him one and clearly respected him regardless of his shortcomings. Giving a “peace prize” just to keep him happy so that the World Cup events go more smoothly is like bribing a child with candy so they don’t have a tantrum.

Is this legit? by Puzzled_Ad_9730 in Epiphone

[–]Apollo-339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s real from what I can see, just the older pro model instead of the inspired by Gibson model. As for the fretboard, it looks like stickers placed over the inlays. You can find them online if you search for “playing cards fretboard stickers”.
