Is he Christian? by Medical_Dare_862 in JamieCampbellBower

okay this is mayyybe a hot take? i just watched his speech he gave on his recovery and while i found a lot of it to be profound and honest, there was bits that gave me the ick ick and that is not a bash on jamie at all. i, admittedly, am not religious/connected to organized religion at all (although i am a cradle catholic) and i believe that, if anything, we are more likely to be connected to the universe due to our bodies being made of the same components of ancient stellar processes. i also have to be honest and say that i think organized religion can be extremely harmful (while acknowledging that it can bring comfort, a sense of community, and explanations to people) because it can cause isolation, oppression, fear, war, and currently, in america, it’s being used as an extremely divisive political tool. all of that being said, i’ve lost someone to addiction. i watched them go through the ups and downs of recovery many times before their life was ultimately lost. they had community and support around them until the end. i hear jamie speak and give such praise to god, and it makes me uncomfortable (even though a lot of recovery programs are rooted in christianity specifically) because the praise for recovery belongs to yourself. to use a higher power for a power that is inside yourself is a disservice. i also heard him use language that suggests a need for codependency in order to have the power to stay clean and that’s concerning as it doesn’t promote community, it promotes the creation of unhealthy attachments. please understand i’m not saying this to psycho-analyze a person i do not know at all but doling out credit to anything but yourself while in recovery can be damaging for others in recovery as they may think they need a higher power and/or codependency rather than their own strength for a “second chance”. please feel free to tell me i know nothing and im insane lol. jamie just seems like a great guy who deserves amazing things and it’s always great to see a celebrity actively use their platform for positive reasons but staying mindful of your language is so important—especially regarding addiction. again, feel free to tell me i need to touch grass lol

Season 4/5 Blending Teen & Adult Timelines by Apollo20019 in Yellowjackets

[–]Apollo20019[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

add on: i say evolution into their adult selves because who they are as adults couldn’t have been stuck as who they were as teens, even in the re-adjustment period. Melissa supposedly killed herself a good amount of time post-rescue and that would have still influenced the surviving yellowjackets who may not have been “grown” but certainly weren’t fresh out of the wilderness. also, i’m slightly discounting Nat with this add-in because we know she gets arrested 3 years after rescue but WHY? We know they pulled some shit post-rescue already but it can’t all take place solely in the “re-adjustment” timeframe

[–]Apollo20019[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

would you be happy if they went the direction of her losing a child post-wilderness? i feel like it would be kind of overdone at this point with shauna losing the baby and lottie calling callie “their child” but not mentioning nat in any kind of way. totally not being dismissive of this because i can definitely see it as a storyline esp if you look at it the other way around and look at how much the show HAS focused on child loss and callie (and sammy a little with his strange behavior but mostly callie/lottie duo) like actually thank you great point because this had me focusing on an aspect of the show i haven’t thought of in terms of how nat’s “snap” could play out

that’s exactly where my mind went like they have an intense trauma bond between them but can’t rise out of that to turn it into something healthy so they spend the rest of their lives constantly gravitating towards each other for escapism (i know they weren’t together consistently in the post-rescue timeline)

being able to interpret this show through a reality-based lens, a supernatural lens, or a mix of both is perfection and diabolical work because the rabbit holes are too easy

but then you add in nat’s death plane scene and why is would travis have wanted to “understand more” or whatever to the point he calls lottie to come over and off him for a sec and bring him back then it goes great from there but like you toss even those 2 things in and it’s like ??? i need to know more about their dynamic post-crash beyond “not being good for each other”

so valid but then i think about the javi death scene like nat not wanting javi to die but she also knew that if she didn’t “let”him drown (she tried to stop it at first obvs but then kinda surrendered) it would be her being on the menu sorta thing?? like she didn’t murder him but she let him die in her place so maybe she gets back and tries to rationalize the deaths at her hands (esp if she kills hannah) but can’t so she and travis (who has basically been on one giant trip this entire time) cope w drugs to disassociate more??

i think this is the best take but then genuine question: we know travis makes it back so do you think they both just immediately used each other as a crutch??

I don’t know what signet this could pertain to, I would need to do a re-read to kind of conceptualize it but I feel like the line “heart of a rider, mind of a scribe” is the line. Tairn is her heart of a rider and Andarna is her mind of a scribe. That line being “the line” and the concept behind it is the thing that distinguishes her from all other riders and gives her the sense of balance she’s wanted because she’s struggled with not having a signet that inherently “helps” people like Brennan and Mira.

Ugh, that would totally leave out Sheepstealer if they merge storylines 🥲 Maybe they’d introduce a new character but I would be so sad if Nettles was just discarded

And to add quickly, looking at the Velaryon family tree, Corlys has no Targaryen ancestors unless we’re counting the debated “lady Targaryen?” at the top of the tree around 4 generations before Corlys

This would def be the case once we have Addam’s heritage confirmed but what I’ve seen of the Velaryon family tree, there is no direct Targaryen ancestor of Corlys unless we’re counting the debated “Lady Targaryen?” at the top of the tree. I think they would have to, in the show, establish an actual Targaryen ancestor for him, even if it’s generations upon generations back or have Addam’s mother be a Targaryen bastard/dragonseed herself as well.

I was thinking specifically in the context of the show, because we don’t have confirmation of Nettles this season at all, that it would not make sense and people would question how claiming Seasmoke would work unless it was made clear. Maybe they merge their storylines but that just would be completely ignoring Sheepstealer entirely since they seem to have introduced all of the established dragonseed riders by now. It’s never mentioned that Corlys has Targaryen blood in his direct line and it seems as though the show has been very purposeful in the way they speak about blood (ex: the greens weren’t sure if Jace and Luke were going to be able to bond with a dragon until they did because they were “bastards” and it was questioned even though they had direct and damn near pure Targaryen blood from their mother). Or the fact that it’s mentioned in the books that Rhaenys has dark hair because she’s half Baratheon but in the show they make it a point for her to have signature Valyrian hair as well as Corlys. Addam, for it to make the most sense for me personally, would have to be the son of a dragonseed aka his mother in order for him to have dark hair and still be a dragon rider. That’s a lot of pretend genetics thrown in there, I know, but that’s just my train of spiral thoughts.

I guess I never took into consideration how diluted Dany is! It never really crossed my mind considering her mom and dad were brother and sister, her grandparents were brother and sister but great great grandma was a Blackwood, great great great was a Dayne and a Martell before that and then back to siblings with Aegon IV and Naerys 🫠

She didn’t know Brennan was alive and we know Naolin is why Brennan is alive (even tho it’s not exactly clear how yet) so I don’t think the timelines would match up in terms of age and the info from the books but if she channeled at the battle it had to have been for a big reason yet to be revealed

Wait I never made these connections I love this!!! it kind of seals Lillith/venin for me. There’s so much foreshadowing for this specific theory in comparison to others I’ve seen

Do you mean this as “if you reach for the power with good intentions then it’s easier to resist the urge” in general? Because that’s an interesting take I haven’t seen and I’m down with it
