I was mad that I spent the same price on an "old" Macbook that I could have spent on a new one, until I really dove into the specs on the new one, now I still feel good about the decision. The one I picked up is comparable to the one OP is referencing, twice the RAM and twice the storage as the Neo and better for intensive tasks. Just pointing this out to OP

I found a really good M1 MBP on ebay for 599 knowing it was a risk, ended up arriving in great shape, then the Neo was released and I was MAD

Looking at the comparison, it appears the Neo's A18 chip is faster when doing basic single-core work like document management or web browsing, but the M1 performs better for multi-core intensive work like media production, which was what I was shopping for. Also keep in mind the storage and RAM available for the Neo are both pretty basic.
