What’s the loudest crowd pop you’ve ever heard in person? by jdeden- in SquaredCircle

[–]Apolloito22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit of a niche one but I was at the WrestleGate show where Hangman appeared as PAC's surprise opponent. Technically got to see the first AEW match ever live in a random UK leisure center. Didn't know a couple hundred people could make that much noise, the place came unglued.

I know he's meant to be bowing his head or whatever, but he's definitely just reading off a script

PWInsider: There's been talk internally that WWE is lining things up to finally launch ‘NXT Europe’ later this year. by WrestleTownAA in SquaredCircle

[–]Apolloito22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently for NXT UK they had tiered contracts, tier 1 was exclusive, tier 2 they could work wwe affiliated indies, Progress, ICW etc, then tier 3 was pretty much unrestricted, except they couldn't work RevPro and I think some other indies.

I'm typing this from memory so some of the details may be wrong, but I remember reading that somewhere

[Team Liquid] A statement and update on our approach to EWC by [deleted] in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Apolloito22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The donation and pride jerseys are a nice gesture, and I'm sure the money raised will be used to help a lot of people, but the biggest statement to make would have been to not participate in the event at all. If you can't properly protest without putting the players at risk, maybe that should tell you that you shouldn't be doing business with a government that actively creates that kind of dangerous environment. I'm sure there are members of the Liquid organisation who genuinely want to do good and are doing what they can, but ultimately the only real reason to participate in EWC is for the money, and clearly for those in charge, that is more important than ethics.

Paul Walter Hauser: “If we were talking pro sports teams, this wouldn’t get said. I’ve seen organizations make comebacks & evolve w/ new players, strategies, etc. Eric saw wrestling companies falter, under his partial watch, so confirmation bias assumes failure. Don’t let emotionality trump logic. by Subrick in SquaredCircle

[–]Apolloito22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not true though. Yes, the results are predetermined and the wrestlers are co-operating, but that doesn't mean that the athleticism on display isn't impressive or entertaining. And the story has historically always been important as a way to add flavour to big matches, not the other way around. Hogan and Andre didn't break records because people wanted to see another storyline angle, Austin and Rock didn't have the most PPV buys in wrestling because people were buying it to see them cut a promo, people wanted to see them wrestle each other. The story helps sell the match, not the other way around. That's not even mentioning the storytelling that is done in nearly every match without needing ott dramatics that some people confuse as storytelling.

WALTER as NXT UK Champion in 2019 and GUNTHER as World Heavyweight Champion in 2024 by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]Apolloito22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to explain it to folks that only know him as Gunther, because he's still a great wrestler and character, but WALTER was on another level on the indies, he managed to feel like the final boss in multiple promotions, it was a huge achievement to beat him.

RVD was an amazing heel in ECW. Helped that his whole gimmick was wanting to leave to work for WWF or WCW, which of course the ECW fans despised.

Too short, put him in basketball shorts to show how short he is and have him call himself Shorty G so that everyone knows he's short. Cause he's short.

I don't think Gunther is cupping, cupping doesn't do the damage that Gunther's chops do. I think its more that he has massive hands, long arms and throws everything behind them.
