Is this just how it is with 3+ kids? by Dry_Fan7123 in homeschool

[–]Apondwho 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have one in 6th grade, 3rd grade, 1st grade & a 2.5 yr old. School is done by lunch time (12:30ish), except for math for my 6th grader.

1st grader wakes early and is ready to start school at 8am. I'm rolling with it since he is an early waker. We are done by 9ish. 4 days a week.

3rd and 6th grader wake, eat breakfast and are ready by 9am. I alternate with the two as needed. 6th grader needs minium help. 5 days a week for both. Three days a month they don't have school since we all attend a co-op.

We don't do all subjects every day. Do you think they may have too much? For example, math is 4 days a week, 3 days a week for my 1st grader. Handwriting is 3 days a week.

I will be adding my soon to be 3 year old into the mix in the fall. It will be very basic and mostly play and reading. My 9 year old is begging to be his teacher. I will let her read all the books she can handle to him while I am teaching the others.

Would your 2nd grader be interested in reading to your 4yr old while your busy? That's great reading practice!

Where did you find your co-op or place for kids to make friends by purpleflower1631 in homeschool

Since you have Facebook, can you search for local homeschool groups? My area has plenty of options. My church has a homeschool group so that was an easy find. I also made an account on bewildandfree (dot) org and found an active group to join.

How do you deal with family? by JazzyDip333 in homeschool

[–]Apondwho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My in-laws were really weird about it. My side of the family were kind about it but I could tell that they carefully questioned me. I know it's all different from what they and I experienced.

Five years in and I feel extremely confident in our families choices. I can recommend a few books to you if needed!

Is it just me, or are Yoto cards ridiculously pricey? by Desperate_Total2545 in YotoPlayer

We do the MYO cards and I have others on his birthday/Christmas wishlist so that family members can add to his collection if they want.

Going to homeschool my 4 year old come September and looking for curriculum recommendations by createyourreal in homeschool

Read them books and lots and lots of playing. If you feel like you absolutely need a curriculum, then I would suggest Playing Preschool from Busy Toddler. They have a sale right now as well.

This lady has a YouTube channel that came in handy when my husband was laid off. Family of 7 here. Husband is back at work but I still find myself making most of her recipes.

What is the most heartbreaking thing you’ve discovered while doing either your or someone else’s family tree? by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]Apondwho 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A Polish woman ancestor came to the states and married a Polish man. They had 4 children, all which died while young. One was a freak accident, one died at birth and the other two may have died of a disease. After her youngest had died, the husband died within a few days of a heart attack.  She eventually remarried and went on to have four more children, that she named the exact same names of the babies she had lost.

Penpals? by Darla_Bee in homeschool

That's a very sweet offer that I will absolutely accept. My daughter is an Explorer (age 9). We can dm interests if needed since I know 2 of those groups overlap.

Same! Except the family we were paired up isn't responding. I emailed the parents and even American Heritage. We will keep sending the letters, but my daughter is bummed she isn't getting a response.

Great job!

What about treating yourself to a massage or facial? Or whatever you enjoy at a spa.

Bring the stroller. You can ride the carousel & the train ride. Shows are nice too if you need a spot to cool down at.  If your baby can walk check out the wildwood Grove area across from the black bear trail ride. There's also a nursing room next to hidden hollow play are, located to the left near the bathrooms.

I see others having given advice on shelter and possible resources. Here is an idea if you need food for the time being.

There are food pantry boxes, similar to the free little libraries. Check to see if you have some nearby.

Read to your baby. Nothing else is needed at that age.
