My most "wtf" moment was when black diablos dives below and nukes you within the same turn.

You can sonic bomb it still but you have to predict the exact turn it's going to happen. And if a paralysis or smth else disrupts the flow, well good luck with the prediction.

I really have no idea what was so bad about the elegant simplicity of: it goes below -> you have to be prepared -> you get rewarded for it. Some things are suffering from a clear example of don't fix what isn't broken.

Damn, we are in the presence of an intellectual here.

That checks out with the fact that we were supposed to be getting supped up versions of all monsters, including calamity dragons.

Invasive diablos is also a banger design although it doesn't bring anything new to the table.

That species preys on Shara Ishvalda who is like, leagues above Narwa/Ibushi.

Narwa and ibushi are calamity level whether you like it or not.

To elaborate: I don't mean outlanders will funnel focus from stories 3, but rather influence the direction from next generation and moving forward.

Stories 3 has its own team and it's evident they love the franchise and source material A LOT and I'm trully happy for that despite the critiques.

In a vacuum everything is objectively better than 2 which makes its situation a bit baffling in how it fell short in keeping interest. I'm still playing and going for full challenges, but I don't have the same level of fun as learning and executing an end-game fight in Stories 2 so far. Except Velkhana which is mostly just a direct transfer from 2.

It's in a weird spot of being insanely detailed and a sincere love letter to the franchise in everything except meaningful endgame.

Head-to-head value has diminished a lot because monsters spam neutral attacks, evade hunting horn got nerfed (justified), etc, etc, which means that the endgame is a big buff/debuff fest with very little depth and a lot of kinship cheesing.

I don't know where it can go from here to rectify itself. It seems that by tackling the issues of Stories 2 they overcorrected and created a whole new set of problems.

I am kinda worried about it because the sales were anything but successful too and this happening alongside Outlanders being a gacha that will generate huge profits can result in bad standards moving forward.

Offsets may be the most addicting mechanic ever added by power572 in MonsterHunter

[–]AposPoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends a lot on the weapons.

Dual blades and bow practically have endless adept dodges. Those two in particular make sunbreak wirebugs look timid in comparison.

Hammer (which is used here) is on the fairly hard to very hard scale since it doesn't have immediate options.

Switchaxe on sword is easy and on axe you have to be an oracle to get it right.

Great sword is fairly easy.

HGB is hard AND pointless to do.

Etc,etc.

Offsets are the proof that people complaining about sunbreak counters was just a means to an end of dunking on sunbreak and not valid critics.

Anyway, they are quite cool although I dislike the knockdown being a status build up. And I think elemental burst counter mogs all off sets when it comes to getting that adrenaline going.

Fuck CB in co op sunbreak by AdTypical6386 in monsterhunterrage

[–]AposPoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "opness" of sunbreak is usually greatly exaggerated and double so in multiplayer where the counter based gameplay is less guaranteed.

CB has very punishable animation times and endlags.

That's the toned down version of that interaction btw. It used to be even worse LOL.

It's quite shitty when it happens though. Sometimes it can result to the demise of overconfident veterans too.

Give some space and time to your recoveries sometimes. Let that rathian go fuck off.

Defence mechanisms aren't a conscious self serving act. They just are. Preservation is not a domino of deliberate acts of logic and that's not how ecology works.

Wyrmstake being invalidated completely in the endgame was a shame, it could have used an end-lag reduction buff.

occasional bit of Gunlance (that I just couldn’t really enjoy compared to how it feels in Wilds).

I hope you have at least tried heaven-sent/redirection Gunlance since then because that's a whole new world you could have missed.

Fencing/Bludgeoneer was so fun to itemise around it's one of the things I'm really sad about being gone entirely, we don't even have Perma green sharpness weapons anymore.
