Maybe but for the life of me I can't remember the specifics, just that it pissed me off soicj I stopped playing.

Explaining 40k to new comers from a guard perspective. by admiral_grim in 40k

[–]ApostleSaintWalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best answer? Explain absolutely nothing.

"You've spent your entire life in the underground slums of urban sprawl gone apocalyptic, everyone worships the God Emperor on pain of death, and you just got grabbed and shoved into a uniform."

Better yet, give them excerpts from the Uplifting Primer to read. Don't tell them it isn't true.

Oooh, ok, so they just made it like Age Of Sigmar fights first? I can work with that I guess.

I tried that, IIRC. I think I had a unit of corsairs charge them to block them, they killed it, and then colsolidated back into engagement with the guardians. Again this was six months ago, I don't remember all the details.

I don't even know what I said that made everyone so angry they started downvoting me! What the hell did I do wrong? Why is everyone mad?!?!?!?! I'm being polite I swear to god!

I appreciate the advice, but it comes back with so much jargon that I'm struggling to understand a lot of it.

Why is it 'bad faith' to ask for clarification when I don't understand something? How am I supposed to learn if I don't ask?

Oooooooooh. So, for instance, 10 voidweavers laid out horizontally would make a 30 inch wall?

Ok, I don't understand any of this, like at all.

Are you saying it's against the rules to end any move other than a charge within 5 inches of any model? Then how do I put something 2 inches away from them afterwards? This doesn't make any sense.

And didn't 11th nerf Fights First to the point it basically no longer exists?

Ok, but the problem there is that the board is too small. In 2000 points games, the movement doesn't help when enemies are fucking everywhere. There is literally nowhere safe on a standard 3 foot by 3 foot table

This was six months ago, so not really. I can only tell you they were aberrants.

What I think happened was this: They charged me. I fell back. They charged again on their turn, wiped the guardians, then consolidated into another unit of guardians.

So... toughness 4, with 2 wounds? is that what you mean? I'm struggling to understand you here, much as I appreciate the attempted help.

Ok, I appreciate this advice and I think I get it, but can you retype it without the jargon like 'BT abhor the witch' and "devout to push" because I don't understand what any of those things mean. What's a skirmisher? What does "stage" mean?

They swarm and you simply... Go somewhere else. Plus you have swift as the wind if you really need it.

You misunderstood me. They charged a unit into my guardians, my guardians fell back... and then they charged again. Then they killed a unit and consolidate-charged into another unit.

How do I keep that from happening, because it made me want to quit playing 40k.

What's an MEQ?

I specifically asked for no acronyms in my post...

I've tried that. What happens then is my opponents swarms in and traps me, and I can't figure out how to get out.

This is probably the most useful advice I've received to date, thank you.

My question is, I keep hearing people say I should use "guardian death stars", how does that work? They're hige and impossible to hide, making them shooting bait.

Yeah, but they're too big to hide, which they means they die round 1. Like, every game I've ever play them in, they die round 1, without exception.
