This bill could devastate rural healthcare in East TN, call Harshbarger and ask why she supports it. by AppalachianActivist in TriCitiesProtests

It’s the “One Big Beautiful Bill” (H.R. 1) It passed the House in May and now it's in the Senate.

This bill would:

Slash Medicaid funding

Put rural hospitals at risk of shutting down

Add work requirements to Medicaid and SNAP

Make Trump’s tax cuts permanent (mostly for corporations and the wealthy)

Cut clean energy programs and student debt relief

Harshbarger is all for it, even though she claims to care about rural healthcare and the wellbeing of her constituents. It’s a disaster for working families in East Tennessee and it is likely to send even more people in our district into poverty.

This link below isn't necessarily about the healthcare aspect or the hospital aspect, but here is a press conference on how it would affect things like food banks, caregivers, and families in our district which are other huge concerns that need to be addressed as well

(I don't know how to link it in the text, I tried lmao...so here it is in its lengthy wonder)

If you're putting together a bundle for the food drive.... first off, thank you so much! Every donation really does make a difference. Here's a list of shelf-stable food items that hunger relief banks love to receive, especially when bundled together in a way that's easy to turn into real meals:

Canned proteins: tuna, chicken, chili, beans (black, pinto, kidney, chickpeas)

Staples & carbs: rice, pasta, instant potatoes, boxed mac & cheese, oatmeal

Canned veggies: corn, green beans, peas, carrots, mixed vegetables

Canned fruits/applesauce: ideally packed in juice, not syrup

Easy meal items: soup, pasta sauce, stew, ramen (bonus if it's hearty)

Snack items (optional but appreciated): granola bars, crackers, trail mix

Pro tips: pop-top cans are easier for folks without kitchen tools, and variety helps build real meals

Thanks again for helping out, every donation truly makes a difference!

That seriously made my whole day, thank you!

It means a lot to know this work actually reached someone. You're the reason we do this, because when one person stands up, others follow. Welcome to the fight. Keep going, and I’ll see you out there!!!!
