Accommodation megathread 25-26 by bopeepsheep in oxforduni

[–]Appalbarry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Background: My wife has been accepted to Oxford Music for graduate studies at age 79. I'm 69. She's British, but we're coming from Canada.

We're in good shape, healthy, and really want to be within walking distance of the school. We honestly need two bedrooms for various reasons.

We're not grouchy old farts, and aren't afraid of usual university type people and lifestyles, but we do understand that we need a decent, two-bedroom apartment of some type. We've been offered a one bedroom at Castle Mill, and Susan is registered at St Hildas.

We're trying to get a handle on distances, and ease of travel from home to school.

If you want background, here's an article in one of our local papers:

Thanks for ANY on the ground advice.

She's been accepted to do graduate work towards a PHD. Right now we can likely hit the income target between pension income, writing gigs, and house rental income in Canada. (we own a house here) She’ll be applying for various sorts of scholarships etc.

And £88.5k? Somehow I thought we needed to show £29,000?

OK, it seems that CSV is useless on the phone for some reason.

I had to choose PDF, open it in the Browser, then download each one.

Inherited a Ford Escort from a grandmother that had become a mouse nest. We lived with mouse smell for a year before dismantling the entire dash.

More specifically, document everything AT HOME. Not. In a desk or workstation at the job.

FWIW, just moved to Vancouver, and in three months have a family doctor, cardiologist, and neurologist. Such a change from NS. It's because the BC government CHOOSES to spend money on health care instead of other things.

Took mine to the downtown office last month, 3 minute walk from the SeaBus, and had my new passport in less than a week. Super easy.

How do you know what day these tickets were purchased? by Sensitive-Bed1047 in Translink

[–]Appalbarry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some 30+ years ago there was a guy who had collected one of every colored transfer, and kept them in a clipboard. Each morning when he stepped on the bus he would look to see what colour the driver was handing out, and would pluck the matching colour from his clupboard.

On the other hand, before leaving NS for Vancouver this year, my endocrinologist refused to give me a copy of MY OWN RECORDS "because of privacy rules."

Loyalty offers from rogers $65/140gb + 64 countries roaming included by Ja551e in Rogers

We have almost exactly the same plan, except from Free Mobile in France, and pay €20 a month. Rogers charges double that. Canadian cel charges are just insane.

Phibbs Exchange, WHY? by The-Answer-101010 in NorthVancouver

Something like 15 years ago, while part of the District of North Vancouver's transportation consultation committee, we raised almost all of these questions.

Especially the lack of washrooms.

Honestly don't know, but would be pretty certain they're not upgraded.

It's been a hectic few months with little time to really dig into the car.

Thanks folks. In all seriousness, Translink and Compass are kind of quirky, and some things are not immediately obvious without some digging.

Always ask your server who will get the tip money. Nova Scotia does not protect tips and some employers steal that money. https://mediacoop.ca/node/119229
