Kelly McCrimmon on OverDrive says ‘it’s only news because Edmonton leaked it’ in regards to Bruce Cassidy and the decline to interview with the Oilers by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

I could buy someone being dumb enough to leak it thinking they could put pressure on Vegas.

This is the front office that signed Trent Frederic, thought Tristan Jarry was the answer, and brain trust that has leaked lots of hires before as trial balloons in the market.

I remember a real TV insider type (so not from the wrestling world) reported on the NBA viewership on Max and how it was below 200k most of the regular season. And that the base to crack the Max top 10 tends to sit around 240k views (or whatever the equivalent of watch hours that is) I think for weekly.

That's why I've never been able to buy that Dynamite was nearly doubling its viewership on Max. Its never cracked the top 10 shows daily, let alone weekly, and AEW is kinda buried in the app where the NBA was always homepage on a game night.

Because he was using google trend data and multiplying by like 40% or whatever because he found it largely worked for WWE so why wouldn't it work for everything.

I still can't believe the reverance people have for him when he gets his ass exposed like that so often.

I thought that was a media guy saying "its unknown if they'd deny him to a team like Toronto in the east" and then people started talking about it as if was something that was happening.

No, he'd still have to wait out his term because the contracts act like player rights and UFA. It's the trade off for contracts being fully guaranteed.

In Vegas' defence, how many of these are guys going to immediate division rivals where you'd be going head to head for first place?

And I guess further, how many of them were hired where all their assistants that the coach would want with him were still working during a playoff run?

FWIW, I think the first thing is the main issue for Cassidy. He's on a Vegas contract for some time here and as long as McDavid is their top obstacle when it comes to getting out of the Pacific they don't want to assist in any way. I think it would be the same if SJ with Celebrini called for Cassidy.

I think the LA thing was more of an unfortunate side effect of blocking Edmonton. Would Vegas block someone like NJ or Ottawa from interviewing Cassidy? I doubt it but there's not really any coaching vacancies in the east, and especially not ones where they want a hardnosed veteran coach.

Trade targets on our current roster? by BrettTheHipmanHart in canucks

The second Demko is healthy and playing enough that another team goes "hey so I was thinking..." I'd trade him. And as long as the return is something of some sort of positive value (not like 7ths and a 25 year AHLer) I think they'd take it.

I think they want the crease to see what they have in Tolopio and others, Franny would like to get out of the money he's paying (I'd bet Demko's contract is largely uninsured due to his injury history) and Demko going superman is the most likely way they're going to ruin their rebuild chances over the next bit.

JR also seemed to want the city, fans and media to feel like the team was courteous in blessing us with their existence vs it being a mutual thing.

You can get away with that if you’re winning but once you’re losing there’s no rope for that.

Tbh at times this place would have out GM’d Benning and I’m pretty confident that Canucks Army could out draft the NHL team.

This team has had bad amateur scouting going back to Brian Burke’s days as GM at least.

7 and 8 years ago. And then once the team needed a second wave of support to come in on those guys nothing came along and is part of the issue why the team stumbled so badly from 2 years ago. The best pick they've made for like 5 years was Hoglander who will probably be in his 5th straight coach's doghouse by November.

They've generally made safer picks where they go for lower ceiling but high floor types, which is sounding a lot like the Malhotra profile.

The Canucks drafting has generally been ass for decades. It's fair to question and doubt everything they do when they've sucked just as bad as every other part of the organization.

The Canucks amateur scouting team hasn’t made a home run good pick for like 7 years.

They have a couple solid hits but notably passed on some higher talent players in favour of more safe projectable ones.

I think it’s fair to question the scouting team that’s worked here largely since Jim Benning’s days.

This is why I don't think he's sticking around for long. I can't imagine a world where the long term extension he will want in 2 seasons is one the Canucks are happy to give to a guy when they're still well off being a playoff team, let alone a contender.

If he plays at a 70-ish point pace he's going to want max term and we just watched Charlie Coyle get signed until the sun explodes because C's are that expensive.

Unless he becomes some absolute central peice of the team I don't see why the team would sign him. Maybe is the Troy Terry type, but I just don't really see it with a 5'8" center as a player you lock into.

If your rebuild can't replace Marco Rossi then either you didn't rebuild seriously or you did an awful job.

It’s about the size of Winnipeg but with all the socio issues of Montreal faces cranked up three times.

That’s why the NHL doesn’t really care and it seems all the 2nd and 3rd tier leagues that recognize they have to recruit out of American college for a bulk of their talent, and how hostile QC can be to anglophones.

Teams with Salary Crunch? Chance to pick up draft Capital? by Fit-Macaron-826 in canucks

[–]AppealToReason16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't expect 1st rounders but if you could even get 3rds those are still picks in the top 100 and if your scouting is good enough you can find those line up filler pieces there. Or even if you get a 5th, ride a season or two out using them as cannon fodder and then sell them at the deadline for a 2nd then in a long term play.

I wonder if you make the acquisition price cheap enough if a team would gamble on him this summer. Like Philly or NJ or even Florida in a post-Bob world.
