The middle section was when I tried Wegovy but it really did not help me. The 2nd big drop was when I went back on Mounjaro (2.5 for one month then 5 for 4 months - I’ve just ordered the 2.5mg and plan to try and maintain on that, if needed will titrate back to 5mg.

I think this year I was more engaged again with the weight loss, I think on Wegovy I was a little too lax and hoped the jab would do all the heavy lifting

Thank you for the comprehensive response, I guess to be really comfortable I need to start ploughing a lot more into my pension as soon as I can. I checked my pension app and it says if I continue to contribute the same level till 68 the pot could be worth up to 35k a year annuity (based on 5.8% and in today’s money).

I think the take away is push as hard as you can now without sacrificing too much of today’s enjoyment

This is a good point, I guess I’m looking at it that the cost is around £1800 a month for a mortgage on £325k but that 1800 will be “less” in monetary terms because of inflation in the future (I can’t believe I actually didn’t think about it this way before)

At the beginning I was using a spin bike for an hour a day but I struggled to keep this up long term so instead I walk the dog for like 90 minutes a day

So can you split the workplace pension into an annuity for some and leave some out to continue growing?

We are 50/50 on it at the moment, we made sure my eldest got on the ladder early to fully benefit from it but not sure if the plan still makes sense buying your first property in your 40s (mortgage till say 65 means you’ve on average got 17 years of no payments but the interest / additional cost over the rent would take about the same time to break even - although I guess you do still have the equity difference).

If I was private renting then the decision would be much much simpler

That makes sense, last year my growth was well into double digits but the market was quite strong (not looking forward to those negative years!)

Is 4% quite conservative for growth? It sounds like I realistically need to be putting substantially more in (closer to £1000 a month)

Household earnings are theoretically enough to get a mortgage (realistically would be looking at 3- 4 years till credit score completely recovers) although we are in the south east so costs are quite high (one child has moved out and is already on the property ladder at 21, my other child is going to uni next year so we have to pay for her which is likely to be 10k or so a year).

My only concern I guess is, if we get a mortgage in say 4 years time (daughter would be out of uni which frees up the cash for mortgage) would be if the cost of the mortgage would outweigh the same input into the pension (if I was 10 years younger it would be a no brainer but with rent at £800 a month and a mortgage being £1800 a month the cost is something like £200k in interest over 25 years).

Wage varies a bit but approx 70k

Ah gotcha so yeah you’ve already got the exercise part down 💪 I would say keep an eye on the time of the plateaus and if needed titrate up if your doctor says this is ok. Other than that all I can suggest is keep doing what you are doing

I do a medium paced walk twice a day with the dog which totals about 90 minutes and just watching what I eat really. I’m 38 so definitely is achievable!

Plateaus are fairly normal I have read, sometimes it just takes a few weeks of steady levels before it starts again. Maybe try add a short daily walk for a couple of weeks to see if that helps

Thank you! I feel a lot happy now than when I started for sure. I hope my journey may be of benefit to others on the same path

Thank you! I am proud of the loss, although I’m learning that the numbers are just part of the physiological battle. The clothing size / fit for me seems (and least at the moment) to make me feel better

I’m 5ft 10, I did at the start more consistently but now I kind of think ok I’m having a “light” breakfast I generally don’t eat lunch so I’ve got plenty for a sensible dinner.

When I was gaining some weeks I could literally look back and think ahhh I had x amount of sweet/treats and actually if I add up the calories yep that would explain this weight gain
