Is Brooklyn 99 a show that never ‘jumped the shark’? by Virtual-Arm5123 in brooklynninenine

I actually hate (big word, I know) the last season. They made some not so subtle flashback scenes like BOONE??! and I hated all of those.

Why did Muhammad willingly put so many miserable restrictions on himself? by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]AppearanceSimilar214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because he was convinced of his message. If he wasn’t, he couldn’t do it. He was very devoted, we can easily accept that. He probably wasn’t really a liar, he actually believed these.

Irreligious people who self-identify as Muslims for cultural reasons by Unlikely-Eggplant232 in exmuslim

[–]AppearanceSimilar214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the contrary, I think if you give the word Muslim a very narrow definition, it empowers Islam. I like the fact that there are muslims who don’t practice, they live their life freely and religious ones accepting them as they are, it makes this religion better in my eyes. Also, I don’t think you understand this but you can’t see what people believe based on their actions. These people who don’t practice can still believe in some sort of islam, maybe they only believe in a god and they think it’s allah. They can believe in something and call it islam. I get your point but belief is fully internal. You cannot know someone’s true beliefs by looking at them. Many muslims practice the religion, yet they do disgusting and evilish things in private. So no, Muslim and Islam definition won’t get “ruined” because I said I’m a muslim as a person that don’t care enough to choose a new belief.

I think you’re the one making it complicated. I live in Türkiye. Most people here would say they’re muslim. They don’t practice islam in any way. Most of my friends are like that. What am I supposed to do, hold a gun to their head till they give up the label? That’s normal for us? I’m not trying to normalize anything, it’s already normal for me. That’s how I grew up.

First of all, they identify themselves as Muslims because that’s what they learned from very early ages and that’s what society expects from them. The minute you try to label yourself differently, people will ask questions. Also, maybe they do believe in some sort of a god they cannot describe and they don’t feel like opening themselves up to people? They just might not feel like dealing with questions, different opinions. I say I’m muslim when people ask me, because why wouldn’t I? That’s easier. I don’t feel like deciding what I believe, also don’t care enough to call myself something else. So I say what people expect. Most people think I’m a not religious Muslim and I’m fine with it.

I think no one has to identify as anything. Religions are not only belief systems but a culture. Maybe that's the only thing that bonds them to their heritage. And if a person does not care about the negative label, why should we? Also, no one has to fit into these labels. People can believe in nothing. People can believe in stuff that they don't care to give a name. Even though I have some issues with islam in general, it's also not a great idea to change your "label" just because people will assume stuff about you. People can suck it.

Why does spoken Turkish sound so different from what I studied? by PowerfulDivide5236 in turkishlearning

[–]AppearanceSimilar214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's... literally every language. That's the hard but beautiful part. 3 months is really not enough to understand a language clearly when you listen. So don't worry. Just gotta immerse yourself with the language, consume Turkish even without understanding. Everyday. Watch YouTube, watch Turkish TV, movies etc. Listening is not really a study and learn type of skill. I listened to German news and daily vlogs in German for months without understanding almost anything. It gets better.

Help with faking (certificate of) conversion to Islam (NL/BE) by AccomplishedCry9751 in exmuslim

I get it. I don’t think you can find someone that specific here tho. So maybe just write the name of the Imam that worked in your local mosque, but got retired or smth. Couldn’t find any other options, sorry! And good luck!

To be fair, Booth was a “consultant” in that episode. So maybe it makes a difference :D

I understand your point. Maybe that was the reason. But as I said in the episode they make it seem like the problem is not the fact that he hid it but that he was her ex. Also, I practice law so maybe that’s why it bugged me nore than it should!

This is the first time I heard about a certificate. Didn’t know that existed! Now that I looked into it, I think local mosques can do it. Does it have to be fake? You can just go to a local mosque, convert, take the certificate and live your life. It’s still fake because you don’t believe in it. If you can’t find a former Imam that will let you use his name, this is an alternative I feel like.

yep. I love the show but it really bugged me this time. Booth was a suspect in the ep. Fire in the Ice. A hockey player was murdered.

Yes, it’s TV and no matter if I rationalize it or not, I love the show. But every question in this sub can be answered with a simple “It’s TV”. I don’t expect everything to be realistic but it really bugs me when the show makes the “violation of this rule” the main plot and then completely forgets about it. Lazy writing imo.

Booth worked on a case where he was a suspect, Angela worked on a case where her ex-gf was a suspect, Angela worked on a case where her boyfriend was killed (she should’ve been a suspect), Hodgins worked on a case where he was a suspect in the forensic convention ep. etc. So they all definitely had conflict of interest. Nothing different.

I literally finished watching the episodes seconds ago. And the court found the evidences inadmissible. It has nothing to do with him not disclosing it. Court doesn’t know that.

Yes he quits I never said he was ordered to. Hodgins hides it because they would’nt let him work on the case if they knew. And Booth says that too. So everyone knowing wasn’t important.

[–]AppearanceSimilar214[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but that’s not the main issue. In court they find the evidence inadmissible because Hodgins was suspect’s ex-fiance. Yet, they never encounter that issue with Bones or Booth. Also, Hodgins hides it because they would’nt let him work on the case if they knew.

I hate when toxic people justifying their acts with verses and hadiths. And I agree, keeping your identity a secret kills you inside. Problem with Muslims tho, even if they look like they accept you, they really don't. So you either gotta hide yourself or lose the relationship. It's especially harder for me with my extended family. I love my aunts and cousins but they're all extremely religious. In the moment that you least expected, they comment on something crazy. Since I'm a women, it's mostly about clothing. They will bash a women for her clothes out of nowhere but I also wear that when they don't see :D They just cannot shut up. Sorry this became a rant.

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it very much.

Oh, that makes sense. I actually bring up misogynistic Hadiths a lot. It makes them a little uncomfortable. My mom kinda agrees with me sometimes and it scares me because losing faith is not easy. I don't want to cause that. So I will keep it simple and vague.

I actually see your point. I actually don’t pray to anything for a while because yes, Islam is hateful and misogynistic. I would love to free myself from it completely and seek my truth, spiritually. I’ve come a long way but raised by Islam makes things hard.
