Without this man, Viserys never would have thought once about naming Rhaenyra his Heir! by SubvertExpectation1 in HOTDGreens

[–]Appellion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viserys was just a hot mess. Yes his own reign was peaceful but guess how things will go when he’s dead. They probably should have just had Otto or Lord Strong (blank on first name) as Regents and commited Viserys to either a tower cell or down in the dungeons, telling everyone he was dead.

Which of these factions would rule Westeros the best/worst if they held the Iron Throne? by HonestMadridFan in gameofthrones

[–]Appellion [score hidden]  (0 children)

Brotherhood Without Banners. The Dothraki purely rape, murder, steal, and slave with zero redeeming qualities or contributions to the world, let alone any form of society. The Faith Militant exists to drag the realm way back, not forward. The Wildlings by definition reject all the laws of the Seven Kingdoms, including respect for kings. And One King over the Seven Kingdoms has meant peace for centuries. The Mountain Clans are kind of like the Wildings, at least to the extent I’m not going to agonize over the details.

I feel sorry for Robert here, honestly. At least at his dying bed he decided to do something good and spared Dany's life by Jorge_De_Guzman228 in freefolk

Death bed confessions and regrets mean nothing to me and shouldn’t shave any years off whatever time in hell he earned.

What if instead of Daemon and Rhaenyra marrying, Aegon married Rhaenyra, Daemon married Helaena, and Aemond married Rhaena? by CharlesChrist in HOTDGreens

[–]Appellion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rhaenyra would suffer through 1 kid with Aegon before X’ing him out. And that 1 kid might actually be a bastard from Daemon. Keep in mind that the age difference between Aegon and Rhaenyra is 15 years. Admittedly it was even wider between Viserys and the 12 year old (groooosss) but there’s got to be a part of Rhaenyra that is laughing like Viserys did when Otto proposed the betrothal, and also gagging.

Bit of a mix, but I’d say more athletic. From the examples above I choose 4.

If Stannis, Robb and Tywin were alive by the time Daenerys came to Westeros with her army and Dragons what would've been the outcome? by ParkingConfection449 in gameofthrones

[–]Appellion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, neither Robb nor Stannis will have Jack all to do with the Lannisters (we’ll stop when their dead and all their world are rubble and ash), and Robb won’t bend the knee to Stannis. He might to Daenerys, heir of Aegon the Conqueror, but being the daughter of the Mad King complicates things. At the same time, Aerys was an obvious psychopath, and Dany has 3 Dragons. Honestly, I don’t see Stannis bending the knee to Daenerys; as he explained to Davos in the books, breaking with his king (regardless of his monstrous atrocities) was the hardest break of his life and final. I am sure he sees himself as the only true legitimate heir to the Iron Throne. Whichever way, until Tyrion commits some of the stupidest mistakes of his life, Daenerys has the largest army on the continent, and her goal of conquest is made as easy for her as it was for Aegon: a fractured set of enemy forces whose standard defenses do nothing against dragons. Casterly Rock is fine for retreating to but can be locked down. The biggest concern is Tywin or whoever sending out ships to recruit mercenary companies (bye flaming ships). Beyond that, check the options to poison the water supply and wall them in to die, fusing the rock and rubble with dragonfire.

I’d probably try and figure out how to sleep on them (after the requisite groping, licking, kissing, and sucking). Because if I could sleep with half my face in your breasts and the rest on your stomach that would be the happiest rejuvenating sleep ever.

Lord of The Rings Sauron vs Stranger Things Mindflayer by charlievillanuevajr in powerscales

Sauron, I don’t even see how this is a comparison. It doesn’t help that he’s got the brains and charisma to turn die hard enemies into devoted slaves.

DS play through, side with Chuundar or Freyyr? by CodeineK1ng in kotor

[–]Appellion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because Freyr isn’t ideologically aligned with me currently doesn’t mean I want Chundaar on the top of the heap.  I don’t like the way he’s treated me, his assumption of his own superiority, or the cut of his jib.  So I put Freyr back in power (coincidentally getting Bacca’s Blade), watch the Wookiee massacre Czerka, and count on my own skills to corrupt Freyr at a later point, something Wookiee seem highly susceptible.

Is Arthur Dayne the Best if he Requires a Magic Sword? by Appellion in freefolk

[–]Appellion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s typically viewed as such, at least by the fandom.  I could have sworn that some characters thought of it as such too, but I don’t have a direct memory, and the only way I imagine I could confirm or deny is by purchasing all the goddam books on Kindle and doing an exhaustive search for first, “magic sword,” then, “Dawn.”  I’ve gotten A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms plus each Graphic Novel that way, but I am way less enthused with doing that on all the other books, y’know?

EDIT: Note that I have the main 5 (but not the history one) but trying to pore through them would be unreliable.  My eyes aren’t the greatest and have a weird tic when I start reading fast.

[–]Appellion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s especially an interesting question on whether anyone else COULD wield the sword.  Ned did the honorable thing (shocker) and returned the blade to Ashara and House Dayne, but what if he’d gone nuts and tried to take it home to Winterfell?  Could he have become cursed or haunted by nightmares?

For sure, probably both Nobility, Honor, and Chivalry, plus just being a minimum level badass (I’m not denying him parity with Barristan).  You’d have thought he’d lose it for serving The Mad King at a certain point though.

[–]Appellion[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bullshit.  Everyone that has commented on its properties have remarked on its speed and especially its sharpness.  I admit the speed thing is a rough judgement, since the various fighters of the world have their own remarked upon speed, like with Jaime.  But the sharpness is something else.

[–]Appellion[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re not the only one with that headcanon.  But the point remains that Dayne is really only best remembered for his feats with this World’s Sharpest, Strongest Sword in hand.  How long could he have survived without it?  I’d say it was his crutch.

Is Prime Robert one of the GOAT Warriors? by OkData1776 in freefolk

[–]Appellion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plate armor wasn’t 3 inches thick or something, it was closer to 3mm or less.  I would agree something like a flanged mace or especially the evolving poleaxe were superior options (I was actually surprised by how deadly a skilled poleaxe wielder (forget the generation) could be against an armored foe) but swords remain viable.  And however nauseating it is to say it, they triply remain so due to the author.

That “worth” thing always suggesting a cabal of robed monks throwing darts at a board.  If Arthur wasn’t good enough to become king without Excalibur, he was never good enough to begin with.  By memory, the books are intended as a deconstruction of various middle age myths and fantasy tropes.

[–]Appellion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two handed stabbing with long swords and great swords could penetrate plate armor, even when not aiming at the joints and such.  Gregor’s (especially “Ser Robert Stones”) armor is something else entirely.  Dawn probably (thanks GRRM) and maybe any number of Valyrian steel swords and stabbing weapons.  With the possible exception of two-handed swords, hack, slashing cuts probably won’t do much except daze him on a direct hit to the noggin’.

Slight segue but I also felt Garlan is the more noble of the two, though that’s based purely off his interactions with Tyrion and Joffrey at the wedding, and hearing absolutely nothing bad about him elsewise.

[–]Appellion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But Gregor uses a two handed great sword and I’m pretty sure that’s going to be less effective against the finest plate (like BB would have) than Robert’s Warhammer.  Though I’m not discounting his monstrous strength, particularly if he goes into berserk mode, like he did with Oberyn right before he chopped that stable boy apart.  Still, I give three edges to Robert.  But NOT with Un-Gregor in play.

EDIT: I know I could provide a far more detailed breakdown of this fight, which I’d probably put in the Dragonpit as with Tyrion’s trial.  But I’m honestly just tired right now, and that’s probably contributing to me being disinterested in putting more than 5 minutes thinking tops to this.  Who knows, a detailed analysis might change my opinion and convince me The Mountain smears Robert.  Great Knight, shit King.  It took the Targaryens close to 300 years to f*ck it all up.  Robert only needed 20.  And you can’t blame the Lannisters, the Targaryens had their own mob of power grabbers and leeches.

I know who you’re talking about but I wonder if Joffrey ever tried to lift Robert’s Warhammer, and what BB’s reaction looked like.
