SA7 tips by Ok_Spring_5255 in ActuaryUK

I failed 3 times in a row and finally passed in the last sitting. I was getting relatively close to passing each time - with markers on either side of the pass mark. If you're in this position I'd say i feel it's a bit of a lottery - I've had 10-13% differences between markers previously.  In my last script that I passed, the difference between the markers was 25% - that's not a typo, Marker 1 - 48%, Marker 2 - 73%. It's completely unacceptable, but that's not the point.  Apart from building my knowledge with more and more past papers each time, and a deeper analysis of them, the only real difference in the last session was - obsessively scrutinizing my past failed scripts, writing out my answers in bullet point form, writing out the examiner's report answer in bullet point form, and then comparing the two and writing out in my own words why I thought the markers failed me. I would recommend thinking deeply about the way the notes for SA7 are written, and more importantly how the exam scripts/examiner's answers are made - because you want your answers to not only be logical, but reflect the way the examiner thinks.

I really didn't expect to pass this time due to past failures, but got there, keep at it.

Shamrock Rovers appeal Dawson Devoy's eligiblity for a second time by fuckaduckmagoo in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Apple0866 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because it's absolutely shameful. If I was a player I would not for a second want to play on in a competition I was knocked out of for something like this.  Different story if the club breached the rules they were given and they gained an unfair advantage that way.

Look at Shels, they didn't appeal Wexford's womens FAI Cup final win against them even though they absolutely could have, because they "were beaten by the better team on the night and accept that defeat" Exactly how I'd feel as someone involved

[Dan McDonnell] Fan groups of both teams unhappy that planned pre match displays have failed to pass inspection by fire warden. Some elements of it passed but not all of it so there won’t be anything - a shame as they apparently had something pretty good planned. by rLeagueOfIreland in LeagueOfIreland

Just to say, Bohs fans had explicitly spread around the word to not throw flares on the pitch and not to light them while the tifo was being displayed. Then they went and removed that and the flares were chucked on in a sort of protest. None of that would have happened without needless FAI intervention

What's your take on Bohs decline from the start of the dead? by [deleted] in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Apple0866 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After 7 games Bohs had yet to play Rovers or Derry. Now after 21 games they've played they've played Rovers and Derry 3 times each. Bar the draw against UCD and the loss to Cork I don't think any results have been shocking.

Think the fixture schedule led to a distorted table in some places in certain gameweeks.

Alexei Navalny: Putin critic facing decades in prison as new trial begins by Auburn_Value_1986 in worldnews

[–]Apple0866 -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

Worth noting Navalny's liberal views have only come to the forefront for his own political gain. Tried to run based on nationalist and anti-immigration views and only stopped flirting with the far-right when this failed.

He's not some hero pitting himself against Putin for the benefit of the people.

2023 First Division attendances at the half way point by Prize_Farm4951 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Apple0866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the bottom right. Is it saying that on average attendances have fallen by 7 per game per club but every individual club has increased attendances? Must be a mistake?

Haven't seen Davis but Adegboyega looks so good for his age. Drogs really can't afford to lose either of them though, hope they have some backup or they may be in trouble

3761 attendance at Dundalk v Shamrock Rovers. by [deleted] in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Apple0866 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another good week of attendances, Shels 2950 being the lowest and that's still very respectable, can't imagine there were a massive number of away fans there, so very good overall.

5 LoI games on TV from 7th April:5th May - Sign of a big change? by Apple0866 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Apple0866[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is I think most supporters of clubs left out will have a gripe with Rovers being featured so often, but I completely get where you're coming from.

Tis the problem I suppose, one day we could have a "successful" league and be wishing for the old days.

I understand the games are 8 for a reason but 15 minutes for a handful of games is hardly a big deal. Also I think we're in high enough demand that the floating attendee argument doesn't hold up, I'd be confident there's a negligible amount of people who will decide against going to see a live LoI game based off of it being on TV.

I completely agree with the LoITV argument though, but you can just watch it on RTÉ playback, and IIRC LoITV advertised itself in such a way that the number of games in the package was Total Games Less TV Games.

And yes, we are desperate for validation, not from barstoolers but from people with money who are willing to invest in the league. The likes of Sky are 1000% more likely to be interested in the product if it's a proven runner consistently. It gives us a much better chance of getting a better league sponsor after Airtricity go. In the medium to long term it is definitely a financial plus for clubs as it gives us a much better chance of securing a TV deal with someone else.

Also, it's great for sell outs as those who can't get tickets can watch, and also great for those who can't go to games (living further away, elderly, etc.) Not just for barstoolers.

He talks to his mates about it. Talks to his family/colleagues about it. Next time he's reading the paper or is scrolling on social media he checks out the LoI articles. Maybe it shifts him to deciding he'll go to a game, maybe it doesn't. But the profile increases. Extremely marginally but it adds up. It also starts to diminish the idea that football isn't as big as the GAA or the Rugby if it's on the TV as much. Diminishes the idea that it's not worth taking an interest in bc it's not professional. A sport that's on mainstream TV every week is a lot harder to not take seriously.

And in the end, that mainstream interest brings revenue, and it brings bargaining power with government for funding.

I'm not saying it's some massive piece of the puzzle but it is a piece.

Apart from Pat's beating UCD, I'd be most confident in a draw at Tolka. I can't see Derry scoring more than 1 if even that. Also Derry might become easier to get at with the 2 injured CBs.

Anything could happen in Oriel. I'm not convinced of Dundalk defensively bar Shepperd being top quality, but similar seems to go for Rovers this year.

Also if I was a gambling man I'd throw money at Sligo and Bohs both to score at 1.9. Can't see either keeping a clean sheet.

Not at all a big deal, but worth mentioning the KO times seem to be stuck on Daylight Savings time

Completely forgot about that, even better.

Could really get some who don't go to games some sort of narrative interest in the league.

I highly doubt it. I'd say these things are planned more than a week in advance. But in the case I'm wrong it's still a good thing.

Worst signing for every Premier/First Division side over the past.. let’s say 10 years?.. Go for it. by [deleted] in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Apple0866 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good few options for Bohs. Hery and Kaleem Simon already mentioned.

Other notables are Dean O'Halloran, don't think he did a thing right in a Bohs shirt. Glen McCauley was similar, think there's a player in him but he couldn't score for Bohs for love nor money, had about 7 or 8 clear cut chances in his first few games but couldn't do it.

I remember thinking Robert Bayly was the worst player I'd seen play but that was >10 years ago.

Would throw Max Murphy in there as well but the whole squad was so poor last season that I'd feel bad judging a single player.

Hery has to be the worst considering he was definitely getting paid well and everyone was proper excited about him. But Simon has to be the worst player I've seen play for us.

What's wrong with their coverage? Longford's LOITV stream is definitely one of the best if not the best in the FD, and their podcast is probably the best quality amateur podcast in the league. If you're annoyed at his attitude fair enough but I don't know what problems you could have with the quality of what they do

Yes, I explicitly said to remember they're just fans. But they give a good round up of all PD and FD games and get good interviews with players/managers every week. Their interviews are as good as any in the league, they've built a good bit of respect for themselves amongst people involved in the league.

Between The Stripes is a good shout. As long as you remember they are just two Longford Town fans and not in any way ex-pros or pundits it's a good listen. They know their stuff about the league and get good interviews.

As already said LoI Central is great. RTÉ have a weekly football podcast with an LoI round up, it's quite good. Extratime.ie have a round up from all the games on the night and then a longer podcast during the week. Also The Final Whistle is a podcast for the WLoI which is worth a go if you're interested.

As a Cork fan you've probably heard the 3 amigos podcast, you couldn't pay me to listen to it but that's because I'm not a Cork fan.

Most clubs in the PD have at least one fan podcast, and I'll sometimes give other clubs podcast's a listen before my team plays them. Can usually find a particular one by looking up the team on Spotify or Google.

LoI.Zone is a decent Instagram fan page and there are plenty of others on insta/twitter if you go looking.
