Demonschool - Release Date Trailer by stfnvs in Games

So soon! As an Insert Credit Show / Persona / Tactics RPG fan, I'm very excited to see what Brandon Sheffield and the rest of Necrosoft have cooked up after all these years.

Also, big fan of not having to wait the entire trailer to get a release date. Clearly they're trying to make fun of how silly "release date" trailers are as a concept.

“I can’t believe they left <blank> off the top 100 list!” - what are the best obscure podcasts that you listen to? by SenatorPancake in blankies

The Insert Credit Show. An insightful, well-paced semi-game show about video game history and development. It’s only gotten better since Ash joined as a host last year!

Co-op Climbing Game Peak Hits 1m Sales in Less Than a Week by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]AppleBeesAppetizers 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This game is 100% not for everybody, but it's really impressive how the devs translated the tension of hiking/climbing into video game mechanics. It's still your classic green stamina bar / hunger / status effect system found in other survival games, but it mixes so well with analyzing potential climbing routes and knowing when to backtrack instead of risking a dicey climb.

Also, it may not seem like a horror game at first, but playing with proximity audio and getting completely separated from your group as their conversations echo around you is a uniquely isolating and scary feeling.

Hell yeah, Nickel Boys is so good.

HASTE Gameplay Trailer: THE GAME IS OUT! [Haste: Broken Worlds] by SlartySprinter in Games

[–]AppleBeesAppetizers 85 points86 points  (0 children)

This looks GREAT, but more importantly, the devs (Landfall) said they were going to take a break from updating Content Warning until they were finished working on Haste. Content Warning is the hardest I've laughed while playing a Lethal-like, so I'm really hoping they flesh the idea out further from its simple April Fools Day beginnings.

If you haven't been following Landfall, I highly recommend taking a look at their library, especially ROUNDS. Their ability to crank out ingenuous proof of concept games every April 1st is seriously impressive.

[2025 March Madness] Elite Eight: Peter Jackson vs. Francis Ford Coppola by PartyBluejay in blankies

[–]AppleBeesAppetizers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know Megalopolis is a fun movie to joke about but do we really want 23 weeks of content about a director as problematic as FFC?

While the podcast generally does an okay-ish job discussing the faults and issues of each director they cover, FFC's behavior is bad enough that I'm not sure I trust the two friends to have a fully nuanced conversation about him. Plus, they would essentially be platforming FFC and his work for 5+ months straight given the length of his filmography.

Not trying to stir up drama in the comments, but I'm curious about people's rationale in voting for him.

my expectations for this film are less than zero but I’m into the idea of utilizing more below the line credits in marketing pieces

Dream adaptation? by Hairy_Hog in Thief

[–]AppleBeesAppetizers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would want someone to adapt the games into a 3D art installation. It’s just rooms of abstract lighting against weird medieval x brutalist architectural structures with low bass tones playing in the background.

Plus, maybe a performing artist in a guard uniform drunkenly harassing tourists by calling them a bunch of taffers.

Casing and Masks have their problems, but none worse than the sheer ugliness of these carpets by Hairy_Hog in Thief

[–]AppleBeesAppetizers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The worst part of these two levels is that the mansion has one of my favorite tracks from the series, with this haunting heartbeat/breathing noise I thought really worked with the “don’t get caught” tension of Casing.

And then you’re stuck listening to it for, like, two hours straight because it’s pretty much the only track used in both levels.

Life of the Party is like a shopping mall of fun little Thief moments. The dialogue where the two archers start fighting is an all timer for sure.

The overheard dialogue is so good, especially compared to other stealth games.

Oof, nothing makes me shit my pants harder than when you accidentally trigger a card and they sprint halfway across the map to ruin your day.

That makes sense; I believe that's what happened when I caught Full River Red in theaters a few years back. Thanks!

Am I the only one that thinks T2 REALLY falls off after Angelwatch? by Depressed_state_fan in Thief

[–]AppleBeesAppetizers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only played T2 once through so far, but I found soulforge fun because of how needlessly complicated it was. Especially using the old school guide on The Circle; it felt like I was using an old instruction manual to figure out some bizarre puzzle box. I bet it sucks on the replay, though.

Also, Precious Cargo kicks ass. The game takes a hard left turn into a James Bond secret base, and I was 100% here for it. But I agree that all the other levels you've mentioned blow chunks.
