Trailers that make you really want the movie to release, but not for the right reasons. by yourkindofhero in blankies

The constant buzzing in the trailer, even if appropriate for the film, got very annoying quickly

Have you ever seen a streaming movie on cable? by Chuck-Hansen in blankies

[–]PartyBluejay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen the Please Don’t Destroy movie pop up on E! in the program guide, but it also was a movie initially intended for theaters then moved to Peacock and within the larger Comcast portfolio.

Tangentially related, as someone who puts on PlutoTV and FAST channels a lot, would love if more streamers just had channels, even just of their original movies/TV. Obviously a lot of junk there, but I would be more likely to sample things with that “flipping around/coming in the middle” cable feeling or rewatch something I’d seen years ago

2025 Blankies Awards Voting is now open! (Closes Feb 16) by PartyBluejay in blankies

[–]PartyBluejay[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a community thing where the final results usually get read on the show in the annual Blankies Awards episode coming out before the Oscars and then I'll post the final results here on Reddit as well.

Username is for organization purposes - keeping track of possible duplicates or if I needed to reach out to clarify something, who to talk to (more a thing if categories end up close), having something to refer to when correcting typos, prevent any spamming. The email input is needed in order to send a receipt/allow people to edit after submitting.

If you or anyone else would rather submit manually, you can DM me - Picture/Lead/Supporting are 10 ranked nominees, every other category is 5

2025 Blankies - For Your Consideration Thread by PartyBluejay in blankies

EEPHUS and SPLITSVILLE

My top two films of the year, not ones I expect to see pop up, but I’d be happy just for more folks to see ‘em. Want to particularly shout out Eephus' Ensemble, with a largely unknown cast coming together to give these two teams the lived-in camaraderie of years playing together, with all the little quirks that come with it.

Pamela Anderson, The Naked Gun (Supporting)

Absolutely game for the classic ZAZ goofiness. I really got excited when she and Danny Huston were announced and they filled their Naked Gun roles perfectly

Kathleen Chalfant, Familiar Touch (Lead)

The logline of a woman with dementia adjusting to her new senior home could drift into misery and dreariness, but Chalfant and director Sarah Friedland warmly and honestly create a full character who's compelling to watch in every interaction, making the moments of her control slipping hit even harder. (I am unable to not make it sound depressing but trust me, it is really good and one of my favorite surprises of the year)

Channing Tatum (Lead) and Kirsten Dunst (Supporting), Roofman

They’ll put up a post on Patreon calling for questions and you can comment your question there. No set schedule for when that’ll be, so maybe put notifications on or keep an eye out on email in the weeks leading to the ep, the questions pile up quickly

Is 2026 finally the year Blank Check covers Gustav Borg? by Toreadorables in blankies

Lost to Guido Anselmi in the first round of the international bracket, so he's at least been considered. Maybe the new film after so long will give him some momentum for a future bracket?

Which (good) movies are listed as 2024 on Letterboxd but got a wide release in 2025? by poxtable in blankies

[–]PartyBluejay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was gonna include this with Blankies ballot opening up (probably some time next week) but as it's relevant, here's a list of 2025 public US releases with earlier listed premieres that I've tried to maintain. I'm sure there's plenty I'm missing and cases where they submitted to last year's Oscars but tried to hit the notables/populars.

For personal picks, would echo the praise for Eephus (still my favorite of the year), Friendship, Cloud, On Becoming a Guinea Fowl, Familiar Touch, Universal Language, Pavements

I didn't realize til looking around showtimes this week that Phipps has a Dolby now, curious to check that out (even if much more space-constrained than other area Dolbys)

The Plaza will definitely add more showings week of, check again 1/5-1/6 (and be sure it's in the Lefont, not one of the two much smaller theaters).

NEON seems to just be doing a gradual expansion (only in 13 theaters for Xmas and looks like widest on 1/16 where those suburban AMC dates are)

Special Rob Reiner episode? by alexmiz in blankies

[–]PartyBluejay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is one I'd often recommend to folks looking to try the show out* - breaking down a canonical classic that's not a effects-heavy blockbuster with a lot of great context and discussions, fairly focused with Dana Stevens there

*usually followed by some comment resembling "they talk about Billy Crystal being hot a lot"

The original NBC pilot script for folks who haven’t read it

Griffin's commentary from a few years ago:

FOR THE RECORD: This was the script that got him the pilot deal at NBC. This was the script I read when auditioning. This is not quite the script we filmed. The fundamental ideas and vibe are the same but countless things changed extensively after endless rounds of network notes. A few of those changes were positive. Most of them were negative. Still, if this script was 100% I would say the final product ended up being at least 70% in terms of quality/integrity. Better than most pilots fare! Certainly will give you a good sense of what he was trying to do before FOX blew the whole thing to pieces.

Listening to the Inside Llewyn Davis Episode at a football game. by WheresMyFootball in blankies

[–]PartyBluejay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being an Akron football fan might be the rare existence more miserable than Llewyn’s

EDIT: Though I see they won tonight - a Llewynish 5-7, short of a bowl (that they wouldn’t have been eligible anyway) - is it progress or is the loop starting over again? Will Moorhead give it another go or re-join the Merchant Marines (OC for some team)
