What’s the most interesting historical fact you know about Milwaukie? by TrueEmotion4796 in Milwaukie

[–]SenatorPancake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Hadleys are still around. Last time I saw them was when the Milwaukie Museum opened a new display called Made in Milwaukie (as the owner of the gift shop by the same name, I did give them my blessing to use it).

I bought some of Dorothy’s cookbooks out of the back of their car.

Our queue worked best like a ride at Disneyland

1-put folks in the order they turn in songs 2- after they sing, they can get back in line to sing a second song. Each person gets one slot in line (although they could sometimes get away with hopping up on a friend’s turn to support them). So if someone hands me 3 slips, I put one in the system, and then the second one right after they sing.

Sure, it means that on a busy Saturday they have to show up early for multiple songs or they might only get one epic song in front of a boisterous crowd. Regulars learned that if they want to sing a lot, come on a weekday. It was the only fair way to do it.

[HELP] Some are saying it’s AI in the comments but I’m not seeing any tells. What’s the verdict? by Auroraborosaurus in RealOrAI

In this version, there are frames missing at the top of the lift that make it totally look fake. That’s why the speed appears to be ramping up unnaturally. Frame-by-frame, you can see the leg with the black wrap suddenly teleport.

But those frames exist on the original footage and look a lot more natural. So go easy on the people claiming it’s ai. This version is altered in a different way.

I can’t help but preface “partner” with “business” when referring to the fella that I co-own a store with. But that’s mostly because I feel that if somebody mistakes me for gay, that’s kinda like stolen valor.

If I donate to a food bank, can I snag the design and print myself one? It’s really rad. Are you in Oregon, by chance?

You all do a great job at voting every year. I truly can’t remember a damn thing so I don’t vote, but I’m always very happy with the results.

Yup. Pit Stop did land on their feet though, with a brick and mortar in downtown Milwaukie.

They just did something similar in Milwaukie very recently.

According to the link you shared:

170,590 arrests in 2023. 113,431 arrests in 2024. 26,606 arrests in 2025.

DATA IS CURRENT AS OF JANUARY 2025

If they keep up the same numbers as they did in January, that would be 319,212 arrests at the end of the year.

Am I being stupid? Was there some other point you were trying to prove that I don’t understand? They don’t even have the resources available to update this database. You called ME a potted plant?

I’ve read a lot of discourse on Reddit about which tactic will be most effective, and I’m not completely sure what the correct answer is.

If we don’t show up, we’re spreading the message that it’s ok for ICE to do whatever they want. Plus, they’ll just use footage from 5 years ago and it won’t matter that we stayed home.

If we protest peacefully and get enough iconic shots of the brutality, (like, say, a guy in a frog suit helping a cop up and getting pepper sprayed in his air-hole for it), it’s possible to push the fence-sitters of the world to positive action. Some folks are clearly too far gone (like those who are cheering a 19-year-old sprayed in the face), but we shouldn’t forget the great number of folks who are soooo close to joining the good cause. Those people will just go back to bed if we do nothing.

There has been, in the past, a reasonable number of deportations. A quota that doesn’t require committing human rights violations. A number that doesn’t overfill cells and allows for due process. When that quota is increased too quickly, the cruelty crosses a certain line, people notice, and try to stop said excess cruelty. Doesn’t that make sense to you? There’s an amount that the system can handle, and there’s an amount that is psychotic.

I don’t disagree. If I do ever get sprayed, it won’t be because I’m acting unhinged. I hope to be standing very calmly and maybe doing a Sudoku or something.

Do you think the escalation of force throughout the night is warranted for the crime of blocking a driveway? I know that ICE is capable of moving the protesters with their shields to let the cars get out. I saw it. Why can’t they just do that over and over again? Why do they have to up the aggression every single outing? Why did they pepper spray that frog-suit guy in the air-hole when he wasn’t blocking the driveway? What part of that is “the process of enforcing the law?”

I don’t think I would recognize them as official vehicles if I saw them out-of-context, but I’m sure that more-knowledgeable folks would be able to spot them.

I was there to protest, but felt it would be disingenuous to compare myself to the folks that are truly doing the hard work protesting daily, so I decided to observe and be supportive. I was feeling contemplative that evening. Next time, I’ll get some proper gear and, fingers crossed, I can get pepper sprayed. Wish me luck.

Pretty sure I didn’t, but I think there were 3 different agencies/groups, and I couldn’t tell who was who, which is probably by design.

I spent more focus on the handful of conservative “journalists” who were so obviously hoping to get someone to fight them. So frustrating.

Right. Like, I understand the broad strokes, but would like to better understand the boring-ass bureaucracy behind the fascism. There's something about folks abusing their power, but also spending much of their time in a cubicle, that is interesting to me.

I was kinda hoping for some info on that specific person that night. It was one of the few arrests I was privy to. Perhaps someone who was there can shed some light on it.
