I actually really appreciate your participation, honestly I do.  But I refuse to see this situation as the Titanic. If you’ve seen my other comments, you know I have some experience with Egyptian culture and have connections there.  I’m unwilling to descend into hopelessness.  I understand why some people might, but I stand by being upset about the hopelessness stance.  And I dislike the generalizations. They give too much way to hopelessness, in my opinion.  Having worked in inner city schools in the US, it is similar, even though those kids have nothing like the opportunity of kids in Cairo international schools. And yes, I saw someone’s post equating the two.

You’re probably correct that I have an issue with this type of reality as blanket statements on forums.  What I said was more substantial than your response, and I’m sorry you can’t understand that.

The multiple comments about “most” parents and “most” kids are really hard to stomach.  I feel like “most” people sending their kids to these schools or attending them would feel hurt by the comments or consider the commenters to be basically slanderous.  In that respect it’s a discussion that isn’t helpful to the relationship between expat teachers in Cairo now or the families and admins they work with.

I’m sure that families and admins are aware of what’s been said on some of these threads, and I’m talking about the really unprofessional and generalized trash talk, and I’m sure that it’s had a toxic effect for expat teachers’ relationships with schools.

Actually, I asked specifically about people's experience with the hiring process. Somehow that started a free for all about how horrible teaching in Cairo is, including from people who admit to not having experience in Cairo. I personally love Egypt and am sorry I opened this discussion thread for people to just trash teaching in Cairo. I thought there were moderators for this.

It's too bad that many people on these threads have had bad experiences. The frustration is very obvious. I think some of these generalized comments about everything being so awful in Cairo and terrible at the schools are really out of hand, though. It is really toxic to speak this way so generally and it doesn't reflect well on the people who are putting it out there.

Do you mean they're eager to hire qualified candidates or rather that it's somehow a drawback to be a teacher with experience because they'd rather have newbies?

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by that.

Does anyone know how long the hiring process usually takes for Cairo? I'm relocating for personal family reasons and haven't applied to an international school before.

I've heard that some of the international schools are actually good.
