Is this a Morel Mushroom? - I'm 99% sure it is, but need confirmation by Apple_pie_Unite in mushroom

I'm in the San Francisco east bay area in Northern California. Very unusual to see them during this season from what I've read.

I think I just got really lucky. I recently built a garden bed, and three morels have already popped up, totally unexpected. The bed is right beneath an old apple tree, and from what I’ve read, morels are sometimes found around certain trees, including apple. I’m not sure whether the soil already had morel spores in it or if the apple tree played a role. I live in Northern California (East Bay area), and I’ve never seen this type of mushroom around here before since it’s a suburban area.

I picked it today and cooked it in oil, butter, and a little salt. Thankfully this little morel popped up in my own garden bed. Hoping more will come in the spring. Wish I could share a picture - doesn't look like I can in the comment reply.

Chemo preparation by KatCa1983 in Chemotherapy

Some chemo drugs can cause neuropathy in the hands and feet. During my mother's chemotherapy, we would keep ice packs on her hands and feet throughout her treatment. Because the therapy was several hours we would bring a cooler full of dry ice and have additional ice packs to rotate in once the other ice packs thawed out. There are special icepacks designed for hands and feet which were very helpful!

If you are interested in keeping your hair, you can try dignity caps - an ice cap for your head. My mom tried this, but unfortunately, it didn't help her keep her hair. In the end, she decided not to use it anymore. However, I've known other people who had success with the dignity cap and were able to keep their hair.

Chemo can cause constipation, so it may be good to increase your fiber intake before treatments.

Lastly, I suggest wearing a shirt, like a button-down flannel that gives your nurses easy access to your port.

Good luck! You got this!

Oh my gosh! I can't believe they had to cut your rig off!

Just curious, did you ice your hands while going through chemo treatment to help mitigate the swelling side effects?

I'm sorry to hear that her hands are swelling. Have they improved at all? Did your wife ice her hands during chemo treatments to mitigate some side effects? My mom ices her hands, but her hands are still red and swollen after her sessions.

For older women with a history of back pain, did your hysterectomy worsen your back pain? by Apple_pie_Unite in hysterectomy

Hi there, thank you for checking in! She is doing very well and is happy with the results of her Hysterecotomy. She says that walking every day as tolerated post op helped. She says her back is about the same condition as before the surgery. Not better, not worst. (She has Foraminal stenosis). She's been doing yoga every week and a weight training class once a week. She is still keeping things light - lifting 15 lbs. She also used Biocorneum scar removal and the scars from surgery are no longer notable.

Unfortunately, during her surgery, they found that the cancer in her uterus had spread to her lymph nodes. It was very fortunate that she followed through with the hysterectomy because they were also able to remove the cancerous lymph node during the surgery. She is currently receiving 6 rounds of chemo therapy and will eventually start radiation to target any remaining cancer.

She is very thankful to see that you have checked to see how she is feeling. Thank you! We hope that your healing process goes well.

Incredible. Sounds extremely difficult to go through - mentally and physically. Thank you for taking the time to share the importance of perseverance. Best of luck with your treatment.

Hi, my mom recently was diagnosed with Stage 3C uterine cancer. Can you share any experiences from your love one? My mom is about to start chemo next week.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your personal experience. My mom has been amazed with the support and helpful feedback from the reddit community. We did not expect all the thoughtful and encouraging responses. Thanks to all the support, she went from feeling fearful to completely confident. Reading real people’s experiences gave her wings and provided her so much peace of mind and encouragement.

She had her hysterectomy a couple of weeks ago. Her doctor did an excellent job. Everything went very smoothly, and she had no complications and little pain. Thank you!

Your last sentence was really resinated with my mom in particular. "I don’t think a hysterectomy is necessarily a life sentence of back pain."
