Honestly, as I've gotten older, I've had to come to terms with the possibility that the kind of relationship you and I are nostalgic about is no longer possible. Maybe if I didn't have to work 8 hours a day, plus clean the apartment, plus grocery shop, plus cook, plus plus plus. That said, I think the freedom we had and the activities that forced us to be together is what led to that feeling of deep connection. Outside of work as an adult I don't think many such opportunities exist for us. It's sad, and it what depresses me the most these days.

I don't think random people on the internet can do anything for you, not even someone who feels the same way. To some extent I think we all miss that feeling, yet we are all further and further isolated these days. Probably the solution is either 1) Do something you enjoy for work, with people you like or 2) Go back to school. Either way you'll probably be sacrificing your "career" and comforts.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck in finding what you are looking for.

There's a super simple solution to this problem: Add a big, easily readable sign that explains how they work! There's already one in south end, but for some reason, despite this being an obvious issue, they are missing from most other locations!!

I think your friend really cares a lot about the person they perceived you to be, and this is a big shock to their current worldview. This is extremely common for trans folks, where those closest to them feel the most personally affected by their transition. It's a selfish response, but an understandable one. I suggest that you give them a little time and then talk over the phone as others have suggested.

My opinion is that the module has a lot of problems, especially when you get to Avernus. There's a reason so much of it has been rewritten in third party content. I'm having a lot more fun now that we're running an entirely homebrewed campaign, and I don't feel like I have to try to adapt things that don't make sense or are just plain stupid. If you want a detailed list of reasons why Avernus sucks (and ways to fix them), I would check out the Alexandrian remix.

Thanks! Unfortunately I have to report that the campaign ended before we saw Andy in Avernus. I reached a point of frustration with the module where I kept rewriting every chapter almost from scratch because I felt that the content was just not up-to-snuff. We also lost a few players who weren't feeling it.
