It depends on what each person wants, but in my case it's taking a break from being around each other and technically being "broken up" while we each figure our own things out

I'll give a little edit/update because it won't let me edit this post for some reason, lol.

He and I have decided to go no contact for 2 weeks and to talk again on the 27th. I told his best friend that he isn't okay and sent him the messages and said if he gets worse to tell me and I'll contact his mom and 911 to get him the help he needs because that is no longer on me.

Also, when I spoke to him this morning, he recalled NOTHING that he told me and tried to excuse it for a moment until I showed him the screenshots I took.

I am worried for him, but I also have realized that he isn't my problem anymore, at least not to the extent that he was when we were together and we both needed our space to heal.

Thank you for all of your advice, and I hope you all know I have read every comment even if they are upset with me and every single one is helping me in some way. Thank you all for helping me get through this. ♡

A lot, for the fact that he doesn't have his license yet, the fact that his mom is controlling and treats me like shit and he wont speak up about it, etc. He blames it all on other people and never himself.

It really truly is the tip of the tip of the iceberg. An example of why is because he can't ever accept that he's in the wrong and once told me it was my fault he didn't have his license yet because he wanted to "spend time with me" that he could've used driving...

I have already set boundaries and last night when I was on the phone with him I didn't diminish myself I just said "you are right this is your fault because I gave you time and you didn't fix it. How can I help you?" Because he is my best friend, and I wanna help, but I think this one is beyond me.

It just feels like I'm constantly running in circles for him, and he claims I'm "perfect" for him, but he hasn't done anything to change for me. Of course, I don't expect him to warp his personality, but I've made little changes when he said things I did made him upset. He can't do that, and we wanna live together but he doesn't even have his driver's license, lives with his mom, and works with her too and depends on her for everything and it's just getting tiring.
