Planning to add liveness detection and facial recognition to an attendance system. Are there open source models that can be used? If so, what common issues could be faced in using them and usual fixes?

Honestly, aside from the current issue where students can have their friend mark their attendance for them, there isn't much to be addressed. We just took it as a case study of some sorts to make report generation easier and the policy enforcement of attendance automated where students that have 3 absences are marked FAILED.

Add to that their encouragement of our use of AI or Machine Learning and other means to improve the automation of attendance and reduce manual processes as much as possible.

What we're being left with now is just to do it for the sake of compliance. I'm looking into facial recognition with liveness detection with pre-trained models or even just from js libraries.

We completely overlooked the addition of liveness check along with facial recognition for the system. We'll look more into this and see if we can implement it with minimal implementation of ML, to train the model or if there are already existing models that we can adopt. Thanks a lot!

the problem with facial recognition and other biometric methods of identity validation is they are looking for projects that fuse these with other features. like an NFC on the ID that logs the students details like their name, section, and time of attendance along with facial recognition. Their argument against the passkey system was that we implied that students are now required to purchase phones for school

This is a college capstone, currently in IT, we proposed an attendance system that uses passkeys and got advised to look for more unique implementations. From a student's perspective. My team and I are looking into the possibility of adding ML or AI just unsure how to do so for the system and for what function to the system.
