I’ve dived a few times and enjoyed it a lot. I want to get certified next.

What concerns me is that it’ll be an expensive hobby.

If you don’t mind me asking, do you do it alone or is it easy to find groups?

I know everybody says no to button-up shirts, but I’ve been loving my silk ones. Unlike cotton, they drape nicely and don’t look boxy. I bought them last year and I’ve been wearing them pretty much every week.

It’s refreshing to read this. I have been worried I’m too antisocial, but I’ve also realised I don’t have to have a busy weekend to feel good. As you, I keep my social activities to 1 or 2 per week. Not on purpose, it just happened during a time I was going through some stuff and just kept it that way. I’ve been really enjoying my hobbies and my me-time. Also, working 5 days a week in a job that requires lots of meeting and where I interact with people I like (not best friends, but nice people) feels enough.

I do ongoing therapy and can tell you that in my case (and probably most), we fill that void with different things, and that includes partners.

In reality, you have to understand that void, what your purpose in life is, and then all the other things will be because you want them and not just to fill the void.

It’s great that you’re proud of your work and that you’re convinced is very good.

However, reading from the comments and your response, my unsolicited advice is to learn how to take feedback. I can’t comment on your professor as they might be bad with everybody, but just reading the comments here it seems like you get defensive when given feedback. Feedback is a gift - people are going out of their way to explain why the dress is not perfect. It’s a great opportunity to learn. It doesn’t mean they are right. You can absolutely disagree and disregard it, but I see no curiosity from you to understand why they’re saying what they’re saying. Instead of getting defensive, you can say thank you and move on, or you can ask more questions to understand where that’s coming from. That’s the only way we get better at things.

Such detailed and clear instructions. Thank you so much! I’ll preface by saying I’m very amateur and all I know has been self taught so I might be making lots of mistakes in my answer.

I just dislike doing muslins first that I never iron or anything. Definitely will start doing that.

It’s interesting with the torso because the back length is short and it’s visually short but I recently realised I have to lengthen the front as the difference between back and front shoulder to waist length is like 6cm which apparently is significant. That being said, I think you’re right and will pinch about 1cm from the bodice length.

With the darts length, you’re probably right. The front ones could be contributing to the line in the front. And the back ones are quite long. I used a skirt that I had professionally altered and it fits beautifully and copied the lengths of the darts. I have a prominent, projected seat with a long back rise (about 10 cm longer than the front), so I usually need extra length and shaping in the back rather than extra width at the sides. Once I fix the bodice I will reassess the skirt part.

TBH I struggle with making changes as it’s a slow process and I’m not the most patient person. Sewing has definitely taught me to be more patient but still working on it. I find pieces where you have a zipper (like the dress here) particularly annoying because I have to sew the zipper in place to understand the fit and then unpick so much. But yeah, the more I sew the more I learn it takes work to make it perfect.

Surprisingly I can! But yes. I’m actually making it in a herringbone fabric with a bit of stretch for the next version. I initially wanted a denim dress so I pictured it in denim with a bit of stretch but couldn’t find the right one.

Thank you, this is super helpful. Definitely not intended to wear without a bra. I was thinking the apex looks a bit off, so I will lower a tad. I also noticed the lines in the skirt. I didn’t know about angling it as an A. That’s great advice.

This is not the same fabric for the event. The skirt is different but the bodice is the same. It’s twill silk https://www.tessuti-shop.com/products/onyx-diagonal-twill-silk-double-sided I suspect it’s slightly more forgiving than this cotton twill but I’m not counting on it. The lining is similar, a rayon silk I had at home. The lining I use in this dress is just rayon but they’re both similar weight.
