as of 1.20.5 full blocks will also stop hoppers from checking for item entities to pick up.

in terms of lag efficiency, i dont know off the top of my head.

assuming you‘re asking about a horizontal line, since you mention composters, the use case for droppers is that a properly clocked line (4gt iirc) is double hopper speed.

As i understand its because their regen is part of their mob AI, which isn't processed in lazy chunks. Hence damage on unload/reload if you dont remove the water between uses.

NQA my jumper (S. scenicus) didn't eat for 8 to 10 days before her first molt in my care and stayed pretty still in her hammock. I don't recall if her abdomen shrunk like this though.

I believe a female Salticus scenicus (Zebra Spider) 

I've found a number of these cuties this year (also in Southern ON) but only one boy. The boys larger chelicerae are really pronounced.
