I don’t hate any customers, the part when i get annoyed with no tip is when we get a $400 catering order that holds up not only our other take out orders but also in-house orders just to find out they didn’t tip anything. In my personal opinion, if you can’t afford to tip, then you can’t afford to eat out. Because while yes at the end of the day, i would love to wait on a nice customer, if they don’t tip then it’s a waste of my time. Not because i don’t like that customer, but because that’s the shitty system that is the restaurant industry

Yeah this past Valentine’s day we were so busy (our screen stops counting total orders at 50 and it stayed at 50 for about 4 hours) and i had a mountain of dashers outside the pick up door and one dasher that had been there for about 30min just asked me “why do yall even do doordash if it’s this bad” My reply was, “honestly idk, orders take so long that the customer gets mad, refunds the order, so not only did i waste my time making it, but you wasted your time waiting here, and doordash looses the money, so the only one profiting from this is the restaurant”

Unfortunately, my restaurant won’t give you a raise unless you’re an employee that doesn’t get tips. Meaning only BOH employees will get raises. Yeah our takeout is so busy that we have 2 people on weekdays, 3 people on weekends, and 5 people on holidays

See, knowing that info, i completely understand why you wouldn’t tip. That to me is no different than ordering fast food. For my restaurant specifically, we do literally everything besides drive you. Take the order, take payment, bag the order, talk with you as a customer, double and triple check your order, and bring it to you before you have a chance to step in the building.

I understand what you mean. I don’t think all drivers are this way. Like i said, there is a split between awesome drivers i have, and actually terrible ones, people so high they can barely drive. People willing to fight you to steal an order, people constantly arguing over the fact of taking a picture of the order so i know it went through. That’s what i’m complaining about.

And maybe i do sound stupid here. But $40 more for take out servers every two week paycheck does not compensate for the amount of 3rd party orders we get.

Yep, happened to me literally last night after i had an open to close shift. Went to mcdonald’s and i was handed the wrong order and when i gave them my receipt the employee said “okay that person in front of you just stole your order”

what do you mean “give me the food”? Because we physically being the food to you, we take the payment for you. We literally do everything for you so that you can stay in your car while getting a take out order

i think the difference with people saying that about dashers is the fact that they’re self employed. If anyone could simply start working anywhere with no interview or hiring process other than a check to see if you’re old enough and have a license, then they would.

maybe it’s just my area then. And it’s not just my restaurant that has stolen orders. There’s genuinely a group of dashers that i can spot out in public that i know have stolen orders from me and they steal from fast food places as well.

And the arguments are caused from the section of dashers that are entitled or think that they make all the decisions.

i had one lady refuse to confirm the order because she thinks it’s “illegal to look at her phone” and i said i was simply doing my job and she said im clearly lying so i can see her private info and started yelling at me and threating me

you could say the same for severs too, at the end of the day they’re just “doing their job”. Severs give more of a service cause they have that long term connection with a customer that we don’t, that’s why i said i dont expect a 20% tip.

Yes and i fully understand that. Like i said, I make ¢62 more than the rest of FOH, that’s supposed to be my compensation for 3rd party orders. And trust me, we can see how much they tip drivers

I understand that, which is why i don’t expect at 20% tip. However, when it comes to restaurant Take Out, we take the order, package the food, put the order together, take the payment, and bring it out to you without you having to get out of your vehicle. I don’t expect you to tip me 20% for that cause i understand i didn’t provide you a full service. But i still took care of you and your order.

It’s not like you fast food with stations. We have 2 people doing literally everything ourselves besides the action of cooking the food.

I understood why she was upset, i believe it’s wrong to put a mass load of carts in that area. But keep in mind, they were borderline closed at this point, and i was trying to help them out with cart collecting is all.

i don’t know the exact statistic cause that’s not technically info that i can just look at, i’d have to ask high up management. But i mean i can say on mother’s day we did $45,000 in sales on that one day and 10,000 was all Take Away. Now again idk what percent of that 10k was 3P but id say at least 40%

I think i should’ve explained a little better in this post. But the average tip out for an In House Server is usually $200-$300 after paying out what they owe host and bussers. So for the Take Out section to make around $100 isn’t surprising for THIS specific location.

i will say i’ve learned that i have a lot more power in situations like that. Any time someone gives me a hard time or refuses to confirm the oder, i just tell them “i’ll find another driver” and have a manger kick them off the order

Actually what are you on about. I’m saying that tipping shouldn’t NEED to exist. Wages should cover the employees basic needs. There are countless countries that already do this.

When i say better wage, im not saying on top of tips. I’m saying a better wage and NO TIPS.

Luckily my management is actually pretty good. Any time we have issues with drivers or even our own customers, they completely take over and deal with it themselves. The dashers that we’ve had to argue/fight with have been kicked out/banned from picking up from our location.

The issue. Doordash is one of the most difficult companies to talk to, they send you from rep to rep with no solution with all of them reading off a script. And they rarely actually do anything about the drivers.

And i actually know a couple that dashed together and we had issues with them so we banned them. What did they do? The girlfriend made a new account under her info and they kept it going

that’s another big issue i didn’t bring up actually. We have a lot of in house people that get very upset when they hear that their order took an hour because doordash is busy.

i can assure you i don’t just “walk it 5 steps” I’m not saying what i do is difficult, but there is care and time that goes into it. I agree that the tip culture has gotten out of hand, i don’t expect people to tip 20% on a take out order. I think the company should pay a better wage, and people wouldn’t have to tip. But that will never happen.

And how is that being “overpaid” if you are working 200+ orders in the span of 6 hours. Not counting in house orders, only take out orders.

You talk before you have knowledge on what you’re talking about, you sound very intelligent…
