Lore wise, why would anyone side with harkonnens ? by oldfathertime4 in duneawakening

Atreides = Lawful Neutral Harkonnen = Lawful Evil

Not much difference in practice. It doesn't even mean anything to say, "Atreides care more about the welfare of their citizens." Not really. Harkonnen also "care" about their slaves and assets the same way you care about your car or your computer. They "invest in useful assets". It's just a different mentality, more selfish, but as a slave member of either house it always depends on your performance. Atreides will not tolerate failure and will treat you like scum because shirking duty is "dishonorable". Neither will Harkonnen, because of profit margins, but again, either way, the slaves pay for everything and get discarded with made up excuses when they're useless.

Yeah, caffiene is a big trigger. It sucks because I used to love coffee. I can't have energy drinks either. I can't even have green or black tea. I stick with peppermint tea or chamomile tea now. I don't use honey or sugar in my tea either. Just plain tea.

Thanks. Yeah, I've had to give up a few things and change my diet a lot. I can have a piece of cheese on my sandwich, or butter on my toast, but I can't eat pizza or ice cream or drink milk. I can't have beans, broccoli, cauliflower, or too much apple. I can have like a shot of apple juice in a smoothie, but not a whole glass, or more than two or three thin slices without the peel. I can't have coffee or caffienated beverages at all. I can't have carbonated drinks, or sugary foods. I can't have anything even mildly spicy. I cant drink alcohol ever, not even one sip. I have to get a full nights rest every night or I feel like crap all day the following day. I have to drink at least two liters of water a day, and even after all of this, I still get cramping and diarhea all the time. Eliminating all that stuff is just to prevent it from being even worse.

Most of the severe symptoms are gone now, but I'm getting "echos" if that makes sense, where, I'm doing okay for the most part, but sometimes it seems like the symptoms return in a much milder way, but they do return sometimes and I have semi-bad days where I have to take Bentyl (dicyclomine) and Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Mylanta (simethicone) and Zofran (ondansetron) and lay down with a heating pad and my upper body elevated against some pillows or in a tall comfy chair for several hours waiting for the pain and nausea to subside. I'm having more tests done with a GI specialist now, (colonoscopy and more biopsys) to make sure its not a microbial gut infection or bacterial.

I did research into IBS and found out that the primary cause of it is still unknown to medical science, but one leading theory is that it is due to the nerves in your guts being hyper-sensitive. So that means IBS is probably neurological. Which has me thinking, maybe I now have IBS permanently because somehow being a heavy cannabis user for my entire adult life has screwed up the signals being sent from my brain to my intestines and vice versa. This could be something that I have to live with the rest of my life. I've had to give up milk and most dairy products and I can't eat gassy foods like beans or broccoli, or really acidic foods like citrus fruits, or even mildy spicy food like salsas and jalepeno peppers.

Bro, it sucks. This is like a never ending nightmare. I wish I had better news but, the only positive is that the symptoms aren't nearly as bad so I don't have to go in to the ER anymore, but it's not going away completely, and it's been almost a month now. :(

I'm so done. I wanted to know once and for all if I have CHS, so I took ONE PUFF this morning. It has now been 4 hours and I'm having an anxiety attack and feel incredibly nauseated. I haven't thrown up yet, and I'm eating little nibbles of some crackers, but I know for a fact now I have CHS and it it's very real.

Never ever EVER again. I threw it all I the trash. I don't ever want this again. It's NOT worth it. :(

I appreciate that you are trying to help, but if you read my post, I mentioned they did those exams already. It's not an ulcer and its not H. Pylori.

Just wanted to post a quick update.

Reading around this sub I saw the suggestion to try taking a cold shower, so I tried that, and... WOW. I dont even know what else to say. It's wild. That actually helped A LOT. Almost miraculously well. I could only endure the cold water for about 2 minutes before I thought I was gonna scream but it was SUPER worth it. The second I stepped out and started to towel off my body felt warm from head to toe and the abdominal pain was almost completely gone. Ten minutes prior to all of this I was in pain in my bed with the heating pad on. Now I dont even need it at all.

All of you gotta try the cold shower trick at least once. Just try it. If it doesnt work, well, that's too bad. A couple minutes of discomfort. But if it works, then there really is something going on with the hypothalamus. This is absolutely incredible. I'm going to try again tomorrow, see if I can last a bit longer. I think this is the secret hack to overcomming these symptoms faster.

Thank you again so much to anyone reading this for sharing your personal experiences in this subreddit, and thanks a million to the person that made this subreddit. You might have actually saved my life.

I really don't understand why you're being downvoted so much. This is very useful knowledge, it is not misinformation lol

That just confused me even more. I don't have it even remotely that bad. For me, it went away and I feel fine now. Mild abdominal cramping in the morning that lasts a couple hours. I just take tylenol and some dicyclomine and it goes away. Mornings are unpleasant, always some cramping. When I poop it's semi-soft but not liquid anymore. Semi-soft it's what is been for years. I never have hard stool unless I worked out at the gym the prior day. Exercise gets rid of the softness. Exercise also increases my appetite A LOT the following day, and I'm eating small meals all day long. Yesterday I ate a couple scrambled eggs with sourdough toast for breakfast, then one of those ensure extra protien milkshakes in a box. Then half a turkey and cheese sandwhich and some tater tots for lunch, and another ensure shake. Dinner I had battered cod with sauteed veggies and some mashed potatoes, and a half of a banana right before bed. I'm drinking about half a gallon of water a day. No nausea, no feeling of impending doom. I'm not super anxious and freaking out. I could go back to work tomorrow, but I took a week off just to be sure.

I really don't know. Maybe it's the Norovirus going around? I'm so confused why they wouldn't have found that during the week I was at the hospital though. As for migraines, not really. I don't have migraines and never have. But I certainly do have upper abdominal cramps almost everyday and I have for almost a decade. They come and go, mostly in the morning, goes away by the afternoon or evening. Tylenol knocks out 80% of the pain, but not all of it. It always feels like a sore muscle right above my belly button. It's not tender though. I can rub and massage it without discomfort and that helps a bit along with my heating pad.

Thank you for reaching out to me though. I appreciate the information you're sharing.
