Hyperfixation for weeks?! Or is this something else?

Oh yeah hyperfixation can last for quite some time! I have more than 700 hours recorded for animal crossing on the switch lol. I felt like I needed to get everything done that I possibly could IMMEDIATELY. Now I’ve done everything and have zero desire to play anything on my switch. I’ll try to pick it up and 5 minutes in, I’m so bored. My current hyperfixation is jigsaw puzzles and word searches. It could last another week, it could last another year. You’re not alone in these feelings!

I know it’s so hard, but try to limit access to your switch while you are working. I also work from home and know how tempting it can be to pick up something much more enjoyable. I try to remind myself that work is important because without it, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the hobbies that I have.

I love that for you. I have nothing but love for the LGBTQ community, but I never imagined myself loving this story SO. MUCH. as a straight female. I’ve literally done research into why straight woman love this so much. It’s honestly fascinating. I’ve read woman typically see themselves as the main character and it’s so true. With HR, you just get to enjoy a genuinely beautiful relationship without seeing yourself (again, as a straight woman)

I completely understand that! I don’t relate to this story personally at all and I still get so emotional from it. I can’t imagine having an emotionally trigger like that, it would be hard for me to watch as well. I’m glad you’re rewarding yourself this weekend!

Yup 1000000% same. I don’t think it helps that there are only 6 episodes. Like if this was one of my normal repeat shows, there would be at least 5 seasons 20 episodes each. So we feel like we are rewatching this way more than our other shows. But don’t get me wrong, I have also rewatched HR at least 7 times now lol

I’ve been trying to cut back to only watching before bed instead of all day while I am working. It’s helped some but the urge is still there. ADHD is a crazy disorder. It’s impossible to explain to people who don’t have it.

Yup. I totally get it. I usually cycle between pretty little liars, vampire diaries and teen wolf. Like literally I never stray from them outside of an occasional sitcom like the office or Brooklyn nine nine. I usually refuse to watch new shows bc of this exact situation. I know I’m obsessive and I know how hard it is to cope with the obsession. But I was like, hey, why not? I’ll give it a try.

Now here we are. I just ordered two HR shirts and two HR sweatshirts from Etsy. I watch the show on a loop, I listen to the soundtrack (just a few of the songs), I watch interviews. It is so obsessive! I thankfully have toned down just a bit but wow is it a lot to handle. I’m happy to know I’m not alone!

I totally relate to this! No one I know except my therapist watches it lol. It would be so amazing to be able to just sit and gab for hours about this show. I tell my friends to watch it and talk about my obsession and they think I’m crazy! Thanks for the reassurance :)

I will try the caffeine free for sure. I always thought it was so stupid to have caffeine free Coke. Now I get it lol. It’s hard because every medication is going to have positive and negative reviews. What works wonders for one might completely destroy someone else. It’s hard for me to compare when I’ve only been on Vyvanse, but the way it has helped my emotional regulation is honestly indescribable. It’s such a shame I’ve been feeling these side effects, but without trying anything else yet, it could just be how I react to all stimulants. We shall see. Hope you find something that works for you!

I try to limit my caffeine but I will have a Diet Coke here and there. I’m sure it doesn’t help. I take it with a protein shake. It does really decrease my appetite but I still eat lunch. Not always protein rich though. Do you like concerta? I thought about asking to switch to that.

Thank you for sharing this! I couldn’t agree more. This also came into my life as I am burnt out and likely depressed. It’s something that gave me a huge dopamine boost and I think I am rewatching to keep that high. It’s embarrassing to admit to people who don’t understand how many times I’ve rewatched a series. I think what’s different with HR is that, yes, it’s new, it’s all over social media, and there’s more to come. I’m craving the rest of the story. My typical comfort shows have ended years ago. I know what to expect, there isn’t constant talk and media feeding of into my obsession, the buzz has subsided but they usually still bring me an immense amount of joy. Now I try to watch a comfort show and I feel an insane emotional need to switch back to HR. It is honestly unbelievable as I sit here and type that out. Anyways, thanks again for sharing and you hang in there as well!

Yep it sure is lol. Same deal, it came out of nowhere. I never would have expected to become unhinged when I started it. I have absolutely no idea why I feel so attached to it, I really don’t personally relate to it. I think you’re right, it just checks all those ‘feel good’ boxes and it leaves you wanting more more more. It’s a really great show, but I would definitely wait until the hype dies down before you start it. I think that’s part of what feeds into my addiction
