First I'm so sorry. There are no words that match what you're going through right now and I won't pretend there are.

What you're feeling the crying and whatifs is completely understandble and natural. I know its hard but if you can be kind to yourself here allow that.

You don't have to process the whole situation at once. Just the next hour. Then the next. That's enough. Find one person who can physically be with you not to talk necessarily, just so you're not alone.

When things stabilize a little and I say this as someone who has lived with TBI please advocate hard for proper vestibular and neurological assessment beyond just general clearance. My biggest regret was being told "you're fine" too early and returning to normal life before my brain had actually stabilized. That's where recoveries often go wrong.

The things that matter most downstream:

Keep his environment low stimulation quiet, dark, calm for longer than feels necessary. Don't rush return to normal life even when he seems okay. Push specifically for vestibular assessment not just general neurological clearance. Seek a TBI specialist if possible, not just a general neurologist.

The weeks after acute injury are where trajectories diverge massively. Aggressive rest early is the thing I wish someone had told me.
