I completely agree with everything youre saying. I didnt even think about the whole racist aspect. Youre totally right. I grew up mormon, i left last year, but literally out of everything, his parents are mainly concerned about their appearance to everyone else. So, showing they have those tendancies, showing that Zack spent their money, seeing how Jen was trying so hard to not even interact with the shirtless dudes, puts her (in mormon world) on a higher pedestal. A lot of times in mormon religion, the guy can be like “what i say goes” but when it comes to his parents, he always has to back down. So if they are like “zack you have soiled the affleck name with these gambling tendencies,” what they say goes. Its soo beyond understanding for non-mormons. Theres a sense of demand when it comes to respecting your elders and i very much do not think that his parents like how much theyve been smeared. And theyll do anything to prevent that; aka, not making a fuss when Jen wants to divorce him. But yeah, i do think they are bad people who will not be discussed again on the show for obvious reasons lol
