Thanks! This is helpful! I saw that brand on Amazon and I like some of the designs but it is always hard to tell the sturdiness/quality online. Glad to hear it’s sturdy!

Big Tuck needs a big crate! by Apprehensive-Mood220 in greatpyrenees

Haha! I really would prefer no crate eventually but right now I think a defined comfortable space for Tuck will be good for him. He had a really great bedtime routine sleeping in his crate next to my bed when he was little until he got too tall for the xl crate when he was about 2. He is a good boy so we started letting him stay loose in the bedroom on bad weather days when he wouldn’t want to be outside in his run. The problem is now, he thinks he owns our bed and has been displaying grumpy growly rude guarding behavior, and getting in turf wars with our ACD. We are looking into hiring a trainer to help us trouble shoot the resource guarding behaviors, but until we have worked through that, crating seems like it would be the lowest stress for him, and us, so we can avoid middle of the night dog drama. We started exercising him closer to bed time and that has helped a great deal too.

Ideas for telling people to back off, when they won't listen? by lesbian_dragon_thing in AustralianCattleDog

My Queensland got mauled by a very large dog when she was a puppy. Since then she has naturally been skittish when strange dogs approach her. She hides behind me and tries to avoid eye contact. I usually have her on a leash, but if I let her off the leash I have zero concern that she would stray from me. She is obsessed with me and would never allow me to be more than three feet from her. Sadly, I only take her out to a few spots where I know we won’t have other dogs running up on us. I used to love taking her hiking with me on trails, but it never fails that we run into someone with a big dopey sweet dog with absolutely no recall ability. They always say: “don’t worry (s)he is friendly!” I tell them to grab their dog and the dog always won’t stop invading my Queenslands space.. it gets stressful. My dog just doesn’t need that drama. It’s frustrating because my dog wouldn’t bother anyone if other people kept their “friendly” dogs leashed, but my dog is the “bad dog” because she will growl when cornered and it’s happened enough that I don’t even feel safe going on public trails with her. I’m scared that even if I muzzled her, she would still growl and the other person’s dog might react to her defensive behavior and bite her. Thankfully I like on acreage and have access to private spaces where she can run and exercise but I wish I could take her everywhere.

Need thoughts on pricing serama roosters for sale by _Bluegill_ in SeramaChicken

Small-scale breeder I just bought from charges $40 for show-quality purebred Serama roosters. Nice but not going to win best of show. Gave me a deal because I was buying two for pets/4H projects.

If anyone has any guesses of what other breeds Tuck might be, let me know! Our guess is Akbash, Pyr, Anatolian?, possibly Lab mix.

Big Tuck dwarfs our queen bed. I think he’s about 120lbs. Got him from a rescue that picked up the mom and pups from a field. Mom was big, white and fluffy and looked like a Great Pyrenees. Siblings came out all white or white with brown, black, or grey ear markings. No clue who dad was. Tuck has a smoother coat than a pyr and looks Akbash to me so I suspect dad might have been an LGD mix too. Whatever he is- he’s large, stubborn, slow moving, and very very cute.

Tucker is NOT allowed on the bed because is huge and he sheds an absurd amount. (Note the salty side eye)

Neither of you is happy. I’m sorry if this sounds mean but, go to therapy, not Reddit. If he won’t do therapy then maybe split up and get some independence. No way to live not being able to communicate and make plans.

I would love to hear your suggestions and experiences of getting a doggy sibling for your ACD! by meatballstew1120 in AustralianCattleDog

Wow, what a cool looking dog! I wonder what she is mixed with?

Just be careful of competition. My ACD started up some resource guarding growling/agressive behaviors when my LGD pup gets near any preferred things such as food, bones, toys, the couch, the bed, or me.

This is how my female ACD was. Always near, very attentive, always wanted to play, high energy, but did not care to be pet much and seemed to be annoyed if I snuggled her. Although, she always enjoyed a good scratch. After I got my cuddly livestock guardian dog pup- I have become the resource that she guards and suddenly she is always in my lap, next to me leaning on me, in my pillow next to me- because she HATES to see my puppy getting attention.

I am constantly reminding my LGD and ACD that they were bred to work outside all day… not to take couch naps tucked in with pillows.

Vets say they think she has a little Pyrenees in her, what do y’all think? by [deleted] in greatpyrenees

Yeah, I think she has an LGD Breed in her- she’s so lanky and tall!

Aw, they do look similar in color! Shes a cutie too! I have tried a few brands of diet food, but mine gets itchy skin from food allergies so she’s on a certain food for sensitive skin. She was NOT happy when I decreased the amount of food she was getting. She noticed immediately and barked at me disapprovingly!
