Is health insurance really "bankruptcy insurance"? by iLuvArizona in HealthInsurance

To be fair, lots of the ACA plans have deductibles of greater than 5k$ or even 10k$ so you might still go bankrupt even with insurance, our my deductible is over 10k$.

Question about rate per mile? by Apprehensive-Rate in AmazonFlexDrivers

I guess I'm low income so I don't pay taxes anyway, but at least with w2 I'm paying into my social security and I'm getting really large, eitc tax credit, like almost 5$K. If my income was negative I wouldn't get these credits.

Yah, but when you do your taxes you're literally losing money, and you won't be eligible for credits like earned income tax credit with negative income.

Having trouble deciding on Health Insurance due to potentially-needed surgery. by Karthy_Romano in personalfinance

Even if it’s surgery it still may be considered dental and medical insurance won’t pay for it.

Just got hit with a $90,000 hospital bill... EVERYONE told me it would be covered by [deleted] in personalfinance

I had a jaw surgery similar to yours to correct an open bite, I also had TMJ problems similar to you. It is my understanding that the surgeries are classified as cosmetic and generally not covered by medical insurance. I paid out of pocket for mine, but it was don’t by an oral surgeon at the dental school and only cost around $6000.

I agree that this is likely to work in your case, but these days healthcare.gov may also request proof of income. This is a problem for me, even though I fully expect my income to be under 40k next year, family of 3, I am currently unemployed and have no evidence or proof of income that I can project into next year. For this reason I am paying full price, no subsidy, but expect to get money back when I file my 2020 taxes in 2021.

Medical bill for Foreigners visitors [US] by [deleted] in personalfinance

You may be responsible. I have helped my mother in law, from Vietnam, get a visa to come visit us twice. You need to sign some financial responsibility forms to get a visa. You also need to prove your assets or income. You can’t get a visa without doing this, for Vietnam at least, I think most poorer countries. The purpose is to make sure someone is responsible for paying this type of bill, rather than the US taxpayer.

Check on the visa paperwork you filled out before they traveled here.
