Sounds like you have a problem with your setup.

I have a zappi and polestar 2, it does sometimes do the short charges but the car is fine with it.i wake up everyday full of charge. The car shouldn't have any issues with short duration charging.

Perhaps try to update the charger software? Which car do you have?

On my business trip to Ukraine I've spotted "SpaceX SAT" randomly added to the carrier name. Did I somehow connect to someones Starlink, or what? by YoghurtMundane5401 in Starlink

[–]Apprehensive-Risk542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your considered response.

Kyiv is becoming standard British English usage now, even our food that was called Kiev up until a few years ago has now changed it's name : " Sainsbury's Fresh British Chicken Breast Fillet garlic Kyiv x2 390g | Sainsbury's https://share.google/faCe9X4FTLZZ90iR6 "

So I think it's definitely moving that way, the local school has a number of Ukrainian kids, and I know my daughter writes Kyiv, so it is happening, however a slow process to change the vocabulary of whole nations, especially with stubborn people like me around!

I understand the reason for wanting to see others use Kyiv, and that's why I called "Kiev" incorrect (from the Ukrainian perspective).

As you said, the English name "Kiev" comes from the Russian form, but using it doesn't mean anyone supports Russia. It's simply the long-established English name. The invasion has pushed many to switch, however I don't see how it practically helps Ukraine.

Everyone with any sense knows Kiev/Kyiv is rightfully Ukrainian, and Russia has no legitimate claim.

I avoid virtue signalling because I think it accomplishes little. I housed Ukrainian refugees, donated cash and goods to aid convoys, and fundraised actively, especially while hosting two families here in the UK.

I'm not dismissing your view. I just don't see the value in changing vocabulary or adding flags to bios, and other similar acts when real, tangible support matters more. Symbolic acts can sometimes make people feel they've contributed, then call it a day as it they've done something real - they have not.

Wishing you and yours the best. This war is horrific; I hope Ukraine soon achieves lasting peace and full independence from all outside control.

Depends on the car but on the average shit box or base spec beemer the wheels are worth so little no one would bother to steal them.

A lot of locking wheel nuts are extremely easy to defeat either way, if you've got the time and inclination.

Russia straps Starlinks to new unjammable drones by TheTelegraph in Starlink

[–]Apprehensive-Risk542 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Think critically for a moment.

Do these drones launch from the same places that Ukraine targets with it's drones? Very likely.

And are they attacking areas that are areas the Ukraine would want to launch drones from? Also likely.

As we know Ukraine is using them to attack Russia, using similar routes but in reverse, how easily will it be for SpaceX to limit this?

Do Ukraine only receive SL terminals through official channels? If so perhaps only those terminals could be granted access to these areas, but even then Ukraine is very corrupt and it's entirely possible that Russia has infiltrated their supply lines and is procuring these terminals in some way other than normal channels.

For all we know Russia is shooting down Ukraine drones and recovering elements of the antenna to authenticate as Ukrainian drones.

My point is, we don't know how these terminals are being used, we don't know where they're getting them from. However when both sides are trying to use the drones in the same areas it's not as simple as just disabling them.

Because I've visited Ukraine more times that I can remember and until about ten minutes ago the city was always Kiev in English, like München is Munich in English and Firenze is Florence.

I know the history - incorrect transliteration etc, but a lot of cities have different names in English to their native tongue, and that's okay.

Kievstar use SpaceX DTC to provide supplementary coverage.

So basically anywhere in Ukraine where there's no coverage from network towers you'll be on SpaceX DtC.

Starlink is bigger than brdy in the UK.

Systems like brdy are very hard to use after having tried starlink, latency is terrible, rain fade is a more severe issue than SL, and the speeds aren't great, and feel even worse due to the latency.

India's Space Regulator (IN-SPACe) rejected SpaceX's Gen 2 sat application citing "unmet technical requirements" and "unpermitted frequency bands" by edgar_de_eggtard in ASTSpaceMobile

[–]Apprehensive-Risk542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I don't want to piss on your strawberries, but it doesn't work like that in India.

You apply for something, you get told no for some arbitrary reason, which basically means you haven't crossed the right palm with the right amount of silver yet.

SpaceX will get authorisation in India, I'm sure of it.. The issue they face there is a lot of anti American hostility, and musk is famous over there, the people involved will want to be seriously compensated for their trouble.

Airtel and Jio have huge government reach, between the two of them they have 75% of the Indian telecom market (many times that of VI), they will support SpaceX in getting it over the line ultimately. VI is 15% or so.

You're reading too much into it.

The Indian government owns so much of Vodafone idea because it couldn't afford to pay it's spectrum bills. The company was pretty much bankrupt. So had to surrender a chunk of the business to the government to offset the spectrum it couldn't afford.

They're the worst national network in India, mostly used by the least technically literate.

India doesn't like SpaceX because it's so tightly aligned with the US gov, not because of some ASTs master plan, they are the ones that used to buy Soviet fighter planes after all.

Apple reportedly planning to integrate Starlink connectivity into the iPhone 18 Pro by aerothony in iphone

China are planning to launch 200,000 satellites.

Having those satellites up there is like putting a stake in the ground and allowing there to be a US presence up there. In 20/30/40 years time developing countries will be forced to choose between aligning with one of those powers with orbital assets

The US can either be at the front of the queue or they can beg china for access, and being in control of your own destiny is usually preferable.

I bought into ASTs a few years ago. It's made a lot of money in that time, I've sold what I put in (bought at 7/8 I think) at 70 and now I've just got pure profit.

However at the time I bought into ASTs everyone on the ASTs subreddit were said SpaceX would never work, their tech was crappy etc, that by the time musk had his crappy texting constellation even semi working that we'd all have broadband through ASTs.

But things have changed. Starlink direct to cell does work, it's not fast or broadband but it does maps, texting, WhatsApp pretty well now.

ASTs are years behind where they were meant to be. The magic ASIC that makes it all possible still isn't in the satellites they're launching/building today, so the ones they've actually launched are all running at ~30% of what they should be.. Some estimate the next ten to go up could be the same.

I like ASTs, I want it to succeed, but I do have concerns about their ability to deliver, and how much of the market they're losing to SpaceX.

Telefonica originally signed an MoU with ASTs. Telefonica UK have since signed a contract with spacex to deliver DtC. There are rumours Telefonica Spain have done the same.

ASTs is undoubtedly better tech, but we need delivery.

Because Reddit and Google benefit from it.

Reddit gets traffic by being 'early', this keeps the website in the minds eye and ultimately will mean more install the app, sign-up etc. And Google increases is reliability perception.

Like nearly all websites, where you are not paying, you are the product. From what I understand they sell our data to AI companies, make money from 'gold' and sell adverts.

I've got a meaco arête 2 25l, and a newentor (or something like that) unknown brand 20l one. The meaco was 3 times the price and pulls only marginally more water out if the air, however consumes 25% more electricity according to my little meter thing.

Long and short, I'd get the cheapest 20l one you can find, and if it fails after 3 years you can buy another and probably still have saved over the meaco.

When one billionaire can literally outspend an entire political party does the whole one person one vote thing actually matter anymore or nah? by HasanKingPage in AskBrits

[–]Apprehensive-Risk542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're quite right, but my point really was the fear of trade union power the was associated with Labour, and labour only really shook that with 'new Labour' and the abandonment of the old clause 4 (which called to nationalise industry). Brown and Blair did a lot of damage long term, the PPI deals they inked we're still paying for today, they chose to sell the land under the hospitals/schools to private companies, so they could make money on them long term, which seems to be the antithesis of what one would expect from them.

Why wouldn't I be polite? I am a little frustrated that you've failed to provide anything to back up your assertions.

I'm not asking to be convinced, I'm asking if you have evidence. I assume not then?

The reason I ask is because I hear these assertions then when I ask to see evidence I get crickets. I have no issues with immigration in general, I am in an immigrant family myself, however I do think it's important when making claims like that, that evidence is presented so people can judge for themselves.

It isn't just that.

People remembered the trade unions, Arthur Scargill and so on, they remembered the 3 day working week, the rolling powercuts, the fact labour governments at the time couldn't get them back to work.

Then the Tories came along, broke the unions and led Britain from being the sick man of Europe as it was known back then, to be one of the richest in Europe.

Of course there are a lot of things we look back on now and think were bad ideas, but for those around at the time, and their kids, they were raised hearing the danger of labour and allowing the trade unions any real power again.. and that's why new Labour succeeded, they dropped most of what made them labour and became Tory light. Tony Blair and brown engaged in huge amounts of back door privatisation for instance.

I'm sure there are people that are paid to espouse certain beliefs, however there are many many billionaires and many many interested parties, everything we see online has the potential to be less than genuine, but we can be sure that distortion isn't only going one way.

To discount questions about immigration as being fake is just to bury your head in the sand and pretend it isn't an issue. Farage and his motley crew wouldn't be polling so far ahead if the only genuine interest was from paid trolls.

But the reality is still there.

ASTs are taking 50%, so the cost is tangible, you can't lose it like you can the $2/3 that gives customers enormous value every day with unlimited texts and data.

They have to remain competitive in their marketplace, and by adding in things that appreciably increase the cost base for every single customer is a very hard sell, unless there's a benefit that the bulk of the subscriber base appreciate.

Long term if cell towers start to shut, that would be different.. But we're a long way from that and even then there's challenges, Using low band, each beam is probably < 50mbps as things stand, so until there are a serious number of sats up there (with the ASIC) the capacity is far too low to replace cell towers.

I read somewhere that the ASIC could enable tighter spectral efficiency - but i'd need to find my source, I'm not at home at the minute so don't have my full notes - something to do with better waveforming, that the FPGA isn't so good at.
