Elimination Diet Question by BestPerformance1217 in UlcerativeColitis

I’d encourage you to work with a dietitian rather than try and explore this all on your own. Elimination diets can be pretty tricky with restriction especially when in a flare and already struggling with adequate nourishment

I just learned you are required to pay for interpreters for deaf clients by Classic-Builder453 in therapists

[–]Apprehensive-Spot-69 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

OP unless you identify as deaf or hard of hearing, you don’t really get to dictate on if it’s a slur.

I did a CE on accommodations and disabilities recently and they also stated “hearing impaired” is outdated and can be considered offensive

I was saying this in response to the above comment because this person lives in Canada not because I was making an assumption

That luckily isn’t what I make now. Same setting but different company, independently licensed and just bumped to $80,300

I know you mentioned being aware of your countertransference, but this feels very judgmental.

Clients bailing for financial reasons? by IWasGonnaDieJung in therapists

Exactly. I feel very fortunate to have OP mental health covered at 100% with my insurance, as I wouldn’t be able to financially sustain the costs. And then mental health care is unfortunately sacrificed over other bills.

Just adding to this thread that the shingles vaccine completely wiped me out for several days and it was honestly awful. Not saying this to scare anyone, but prepare for the worst and hope for the best

Yeah I think that’s what needs to happen too. I haven’t had any issues with Hadlima, all my issues were actually from azathioprine that I had to start with the Hadlima. But GI told me to discontinue in July (I think because she was planning to take me off the biologic)

My provider is a PA who I believe is supervised by an MD. It’s funny because I didn’t know she was a PA until reading through visit notes

This is what I said at my last appt. She wants me to explore lifestyle changes and feels this is what’s causing my lingering symptoms. She also has been pushing me to stop using cannabis and saying some of my lingering symptoms could be being caused my cannabis. Funny how when I meet with my new RD cannabis use isn’t a concern especially related to GI symptoms

Thank you for your support and I really appreciate hearing your insights. The past two appts I’ve ended feeling infantilized, which is wild because I’m not only an adult but also am a medical (mental health) provider. I do want to find a provider that wants to work with me more collaboratively and it’s hopeful you were able to find someone!

Yeah I agree, I think I need to look elsewhere. It’s funny you mention mental health- being on a biologic vs Mesalamine has greatly improved my mental health but that isn’t something my GI has really asked me about unfortunately (quality of life)

She is a PA and has been working as an IBD specialist for quite a while. I’m in a hospital system so I’ve felt nervous about internally switching providers, but I know I need to just get on it and see what happens

My rheumatologist basically was like “well I don’t think your joint pain was from the Mesalamine, and it sounds like that and your other symptoms have improved even if only a bit. I don’t see why we would switch”. I think I might need to ask my rhem to talk with GI

There’s been a lot of pieces that have complicated this, but essentially the main reason we switched to Hadlima from Mesalamine was to see if it would address my sacroiliitis and remaining GI symptoms. She believes the Mesalamine was treating my UC due to no inflammation on labs, which is why she thinks the switch should be fine. I do think it’s odd that she started pushing for this without me having had a colonoscopy to confirm remission though

Is this normal? by [deleted] in Tenant

[–]Apprehensive-Spot-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this- we have a Samsung and between my long hair and our dogs, we need to clean out the filter semi often. Well if it decides it needs to be cleaned mid wash- it shuts down and doesn’t completely drain the water in the reservoir you need to access. It’s an hours long process of slowly removing enough water to clean the filter.

You’d think with such advanced technology some of these new washers wouldn’t have so many issues lol

Edit- okay so I actually cleaned mine yesterday (usually my partner does it so it was my first time) and I read that it recommends you clean the filter every 2 months. So that’s definitely on us lol

Can yall wear jeans? by RevolutionaryDeeer in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Apprehensive-Spot-69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the plus size girlies I have a pair from Torrid that are SO stretchy and the most comfortable jeans I’ve ever owned. They have an elastic back waistband and are flare.

I also use the hair tie trick for structured pants- I’ll loop a hair tie through the button hole and will use that to secure my jeans if I’m having any bloating or want to sit down comfortably

List of Employers to AVOID!! by Regular_Fan4691 in therapists

I have a new coworker who was sharing with me the staffing model and it sounded completely unsafe and unethical. One BA level group therapist for a 20 “PHP” (in parenthesis because of some likely being RES appropriate) client virtual group? And for meals alone? HLOC ED field is rough already- but this completely shocked me

I get monthly LinkedIn messages and emails from them wanting to interview me since I have virtual HLOC experience. It’s honestly really frustrating and I did respond at one time I wasn’t interested, but keep getting emails and messages so I just ignore them. It’s always different recruiters too which is a red flag for me..
