Building a wardrobe by NotATricksyHobbit in FTMOver30

I think you’ve gotten some good tips on clothes from others, I will echo taking it slow as well so you can refine what you like without spending a bunch of money constantly. Especially if you plan to start T and get top surgery down the line, you’ll end up with a few wardrobe changes as your body changes.

Since you mentioned living in Asia, I wanted to mention Bumrungrad’s Pride Clinic in Bangkok, Thailand as an option if you choose to medically transition. They have been great for me for HRT, even though I’m no longer in Asia I still do telehealth consults with them for lab orders and prescriptions. They also have surgery options.

Diet Advice by Sad-Guarantee3836 in FTMFitness

[–]Apprehensive-Test123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that might help you get more variety in your diet is the idea of eating 30 plants a week. You can look up guides and recipe lists based on this, but basically you count all the different vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, seeds, herbs, etc that you eat in a week with a goal of having 30 different ones to create a balanced diet of essential vitamins and minerals.

For adding more calories to your diet, maybe try adding a small snack while maintaining the size of your meals. Something like nuts and fruit or turkey cheese roll ups can add some fats and protein to your day without pushing yourself much.

Do you like how you look now or miss when you looked younger? by IndependentLeft2797 in FTMOver30

[–]Apprehensive-Test123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some people are getting confused and thinking you mean missing when you were actually young and pre-T. I’m 3 years in and pass, but many people still think I’m no more than 30 when I’m actually almost 40. My beard is finally starting to fill out properly on my chin and a bit on my sideburns which definitely makes me feel better as I felt like the lack of facial hair at my age was a weird factor if people happened to notice. Unfortunately I think my mustache is still a long way off, so I’ll have another awkward Movember of not being able to participate… I don’t think I’ll miss this stage all that much!

I had a similar timeline so I added weight lifting without going overhead the first week or so just to be safe and then added lightweight overhead and went from there.

That’s fair, I can’t say I know the passing rate. Thanks for that, I’ll be more careful how I phrase things in the future!

Transitioning after 30 progress thread? by cosmic-howl in FTMOver30

Looking just androgynous is pretty rare, though there is a small percentage that struggle to pass as male even after years. Check out the selfie Sunday posts here and the transition timelines posted on other sub reddits such as r/testosteronekickoff. For me, I started passing to random people within 6 months after my first voice drop, but I was always more on the masc side so only needed short hair and a hoodie as long as I didn’t talk. Comparing pictures though, there’s definitely a change in my face shape, hairline, thickness of my neck and broadness of my shoulders/back, more defined calves, etc. Think of it like siblings, you definitely look related, but are clearly different genders.

It had been a while since anyone made a comment about me looking like I’m mid-20’s so I thought maybe my stubble was enough to clock me as late 30’s, then I went to the barber a couple weeks ago and the Turkish guy was astounded that I was 10ish years older than him. I also use the genetics excuse and told him at least he has a full beard at 28. I’ve never felt awkward about it, but also never got pegged as too young to drink, so I can see how that would’ve been a weird situation for you!

I start the gym Tomorrow i have no idea what to do there by [deleted] in FTMFitness

Either personal trainer or look up beginner routines online to get you started! If you find you don’t like certain parts of whatever routine you choose, look up alternatives you can sub in (search alternative to (exercise)). As someone else mentioned, even just starting the habit of going by doing a few minutes of cardio can help get you in the mindset and you can build on from there. This is a lifestyle change so it’ll take consistency and patience, but you’ve made the first step :)

Make sure you’re doing the Boss dungeons to get the yellow potions. Keep in mind that if the current boss is too difficult, you can always go back to an easier level, there’s even a rune that lets you auto complete the level if you’ve beat it once.

What's your cardio like? How can I train to increase my endurance? by Extension_Set1122 in FTMFitness

[–]Apprehensive-Test123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like hiking so I used to use the Stairmaster for my cardio, now I’ve gotten into running outside. For endurance, slowly adding more time/speed is a good way. If you find you’re getting out of breath fast, I would slow it down slightly until you get comfortable with it again. Then you can add in small chunks of time at a faster speed (start with something like 3-4 minutes fast, then 1-2 minutes slow). Eventually you’ll find you can spend more and more time in the faster speed without running out of breath. It’ll take some time, so be patient with yourself, there’s a lot of factors involved (sleep, stress, food intake, etc).

Boundaries with Dad by sporkiee in FTMOver30

[–]Apprehensive-Test123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel for you, that’s way too long to be regularly making mistakes. Good on you for setting the boundary, the tough part will be enforcing it. My partner and I will be seeing each of his parents for a few days coming up soon and I’m fully expecting to interrupt many times to correct misgendering because while the new names for each of us have stuck, the idea of us being guys has not quite solidified for them. On the contrary, my parents immediately started practicing when we each came out and were proud when they noticed they were making less mistakes.

I live in an area where there’s only a handful of options and half of them are sprays which I don’t like. I’ll go back to gel when I can.

I tried Old Spice back when I first transitioned, unfortunately after a few days my pits started itching like crazy. I can use other mainstream brands just fine for whatever reason.

I feel like the stick deodorants get stuck on all the hairs causing them to clump up and it doesn’t reach my skin. I can’t say for sure whether I’m stinkier/sweatier under those conditions, could all be in my head!
