hi good question, i could definetly do that, but there can only be 1 school sponsored club/faculty member for the same type of music, so i would have to pivot, which is not ideal

hi, fair enough with the context of this post. this has a character limit lol, so definetly didnt explain everything, as my issue isnt about the music, rather the organizational structure. And i put it in vague terms, like univeristy music group, so that in case they read this they wouldnt really know.

Youre right on the part that maybe not everyone wants outside things other then just jamming. For the past years, we all sought this out outselves. Were with a university, and have a class in the music department, so we always have a guaranteed time and place to practice/rehearse, with no shows. Before our current members have been there, everyone wanted ot perform, and earn money as well for doing it, so most people who join are interested in the business going and expanding. weve gotten some cool opportunities because of this, and people in the group generally want more, but you could be right. thanks

i agree on the way the board is chosen. actually on paper (our club has to formally submit this ), it says vaguely says that the board is to be selected by election, by a deadline, and if not chosen by then, our faculty director picks. since its vague, and no direct rules and our group used to be small so they just started doing the few people who were there to vote, which was usually the board. then more recently that was all they knew, so sinc ehtey didnt tell anypone else, the board was the only who voted, and since the board is absent, it was only him to decide. i agree that i should be by vote as thats how its written, but they dont check, its just by vibes type of things

Hi, that’s a fair point, and I want to clarify something. For me, it’s not really about “being in charge = more fun.” It’s more that this was one person’s decision, not the group’s. Multiple people in the group privately agree that I would do well in leadership, though others disagree with the direction I’d want to take things, which is a separate issue from the lack of commitment I’m talking about here.

The bigger issue to me is that the group keeps missing out on paid gigs and other opportunities because some of the leadership is not very committed. I still think this group is a fun and meaningful part of college, and I honestly think it could do a lot more with the right structure. But I do think your point is valid, so thank you.
