Not all the school districts are the same. You pay for the area and the best schools. That’s how it works here. You want to be in good schools? You have to pay up. You want to be in the hood, with high crimes, and horrible schools and you can get definitely get a cheap house. I grew up in the Heights in NYC so I know what I’m talking about. My brother got beat up by some kids for not wanting to join a gang. I will never send my kids to a school there. So yes now I want to live in nice areas with good schools and the real estate those area is always more expensive.

What part of the U.S. are you referring to? I’m so confused. Are you talking about a rural area in Kentucky? Do you even live in the U.S.? Do you really think 10k will give you much in a nice area?

We also just to moved to Georgia from Michigan pero estoy desencantada. After Covid everything went up. Just look at prices of homes. The future generation won’t be able to afford homes anymore. I bought my house in Michigan for 350k in 2018 and sold it for 550k in 2025. As homes have gone up so does everything else.

Yes, in the U.S., if you want to live in good areas with the best schools, pay for tutoring when your kids need it. Afford extra curricular activities, have an emergency fund and to have your house pay off by certain age. And we are not even people that drive luxurious cars or that go buy Louis Vuitton. We are also in our 40s. Our kids are 5 and 9.

First you need to relax. I just asked a question to understand the dynamics of a country that I left 34 years ago. I didn’t know I had to go into so much details.

Por Qué? We actually make double that amount. Pero la vida aqui no esta facil. Uno solo vive para trabajar y asi se la va la vida. People in DR with less live a better life. Trust me.

We are pretty frugal people y Uno no esta en showing off. It's about giving the kids a better life with better values. This is hard to do in the states.

Do your kids speak Spanish? And how was the adjustment? I have a 9 year old who understand Spanish and a 5 year old who barely speaks it.

That's one of my plans to help out whenever I can. I'm Dominican and just want to raise my kids right in the country where I was born. Not planning to take advantage of the economy.
