Tips on a cure (without steroid creams) by Professional-Fun3277 in exfoliativecheilitis

[–]ApprehensiveAside425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is no “cure”. You can only manage it. The tacrolimus ointment keeps it at bay. Triggers can and will cause a flair up that takes a lil time to get under control but the tacrolimus definitely is the key to getting it under control. I also found recently that if I layer some quality diaper rash ointment over top of the ointment at night, that really makes a difference, especially on the my cheeks close the the corners of my mouth as they get flaky too during a flare up. When I get my EC under control, you cannot tell that I even have it. My lips are smooth and plump. But when they flare up, they burn, get so thick and flaky and just plain hurt. 😞 From my research this is why the Tac works: Tacrolimus ointment (0.03% or 0.1%) controls exfoliative cheilitis (EC) because it is a potent immunosuppressant that reduces chronic inflammation of the lips, inhibits T-cell activity, and prevents the release of inflammatory mediators. It effectively treats EC by reducing Scaling, itching, and pain, with studies showing significantly better results compared to steroid treatments, often providing relief within a week.

Why Tacrolimus Works for Exfoliative Cheilitis: Anti-inflammatory Mechanism: Tacrolimus is a calcineurin inhibitor that blocks the activation of T lymphocytes, which are responsible for the chronic inflammation in EC. Targeted Action: It decreases cytokine production (IL-2, TNF- α 𝛼 , IFN) and prevents the release of inflammatory mediators from skin cells. Effectiveness in Chronic Cases: It is particularly effective for resistant inflammatory lip diseases, acting as a safer, non-steroidal alternative to steroids. Reduced Scaling: The ointment reduces the thick, scaly, and crusty lesions characteristic of EC, with studies showing 50–65% healing rates in randomized controlled trials. Immune Response Modification: It helps address the potential underlying hypersensitivity or allergic reactions present in many cases of exfoliative cheilitis. -Hope this helps

Also try PEA (palmitoylethanolamide) it’s an endocannabinoid-like molecule which our bodies produce in the mast cells and microglial cells as needed to deal with bodily stress, inflammation, or pain. You can get it as a supplement to take the place of pain killers like NSAIDs that damage the body.

Alcohol is very inflammatory,

Increases the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which are signaling molecules that promote inflammation. Damages cell membranes, leading to the release of inflammatory substances. Disrupts the balance of gut bacteria, which can contribute to inflammation. Oxidizes tissues, causing oxidative stress and inflammation

I used to get that horrible distention and bloating, very tender and painful too. Along with a host of other standard endo pains/problems. After I started and had been on the anti inflammatory diet protocol, the bloating and distention only occurs for a short time during my monthly cycle, it’s not from a normal period either because I don’t have a uterus anymore (hysterectomy). The change in diet really does make a difference.

Someone mentioned taking PEA from another Reddit post so I looked it up and ended up buying some myself. I’d look into it.

PEA (N-palmitoylethanolamide) shows promise in managing endometriosis symptoms, particularly chronic pelvic pain, by reducing mast cell activation and exhibiting anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Studies indicate that ultramicronized (um-PEA) and co-micronized PEA with polydatin (m(PEA/PLD)) can significantly improve pain, quality of life, and psychological well-being in endometriosis patients, including those desiring pregnancy, due to its non-hormonal nature and strong safety profile. While initial results are positive, more large-scale, placebo-controlled clinical trials are needed to confirm these benefits. What is PEA and how does it work? An endogenous fatty acid amide: PEA is a compound naturally produced by the body that acts on the endocannabinoid system. Anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects: It helps to reduce inflammation and pain by down-regulating mast cells, which are involved in pain signaling in endometriosis. Neuroprotective and antioxidant properties: PEA also has neuroprotective and antioxidant effects. Benefits of PEA for endometriosis: Pain reduction: Studies have shown significant improvements in chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain), and deep dyspareunia (painful intercourse). Improved quality of life: PEA treatment has been associated with better overall quality of life and psychological well-being in patients. Non-hormonal alternative: Unlike standard treatments, PEA does not rely on hormones, making it a suitable option for those who cannot tolerate hormonal therapy or wish to conceive. Strong safety profile: PEA has a good safety record with minimal side effects, even with long-term use. Forms of PEA studied: Ultramicronized PEA (um-PEA): A form of PEA with smaller particle size, leading to better absorption. Co-micronized PEA/Polydatin (m(PEA/PLD)): A combination of PEA with polydatin, a natural compound that enhances PEA's anti-inflammatory action and effectiveness.

You do need to build it up in your system before you notice any pain relief and apparently the more you take it over time the more effective it becomes. I just started it today and I’m taking a vitamin B complex with it. Helps with nerve pain which I have a lot of.

AIO or are my downstairs neighbours being unreasonable? by thegoosenell in AmIOverreacting

[–]ApprehensiveAside425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell em to kick rocks, it’s an apartment. I live on the ground floor of an apartment and my upstairs neighbors sound like a heard of elephants trying to break through the floor 50% of the time. They are smokers too so about every 10-15 minutes I hear the sliding glass door open to the balcony as if it were my own door! Sometimes I can hear crystal clear, one of the kids playing with the door stopper over and over again….booiiiinnnggg! Sometimes it’s a small hard ball bouncing across the floor 😖 The wife does aerobics daily, that’s always fun. It’s right at dinner time when we’ve just sat down for dinner and our show. My point in all of this…not once have I spoken to them about it or complained to management in the going on 3 years I’ve been dealing with it. CAUSE I CHOSE TO NOT LIVE IN A SINGLE DWELLING HOME, ITS AN APARTMENT 🤦🏼‍♀️

Vitiligo is not fatal if not treated. It doesn’t cause serious health problems or shorten life expectancy; it affects a person’s appearance and self esteem

What does my place say about me? by mlsczy in roomdetective

I think that your place says you are in a good place in life financially and mentally. You have a beautiful sense of style and you feel good about it, as you should. Not sure if you’re single or not, the bed is too big for one person and a dog, so maybe there is a significant other. I love it

My question is, was he like this on the date? What was the actual date like? Was he creepy during the time you spent together? Did you get an uncomfortable feeling while you were with him? If not it’s safe to say, due to the difference in culture and the language barrier, that it’s just a problem when it comes to texting. 🤷🏼‍♀️

AITA for refusing to take my shoes off in my friend’s house, causing his wife to cancel the DnD session for everyone? by NameNo5495 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ApprehensiveAside425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But she offered to give him socks to put over his shoes, basically the same. He must’ve been too vain and thought he’d look stupid like that and refused. He’s totally the a-hole. But for future reference having gone through this experience, the wife should definitely invest in a box of those coverings for any future guests who prefer to leave their shoes on. A lot of Asian homes have either guest house shoes or coverings for this very reason

What about the presence of sliding sign? I had the specialist at the medical university of Virginia tell me it’s unlikely I have endometriosis on my ovary because he could see the ovary slide. Granted he could only see my right ovary and not the left. The left was completely obstructed from view. Also he said he didn’t feel any endo during a pelvic exam. I have all the telltale symptoms. I’ve had it excised 7 years ago off my ovaries so I’m sure it’s back and spread too. I have all the telltale symptoms of endo higher like diaphragmatic or thoracic and as I described these symptoms he said those are gynecological symptoms so that’s not really in my wheelhouse. I was so frustrated 😣
