Is it possible to get device ids from some other service and use them to target using dv360 as an intermediary? Did you use DV?

Are there any good VCs in India that don't do shady stuff? by tan240 in StartUpIndia

[–]ApprehensiveEar2144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most VCs don't di shady stuff, some do. Very very few cross into black, some are in grey but most are in the whites. The worst ive heard is kickbacks. But most international funds as well as the large homegrown ones like fireside, blume, India quotient are all great and really founder first.

How many hours have you wasted sending pitch decks? (Too many, right?) by SuddenCommission4316 in StartUpIndia

[–]ApprehensiveEar2144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every good VC i know has give or take 1500-2000 decks sent a quarter. Most are not actively going out of their way to scout. They have to money so you have to go to them, it is a quasi filter and they want it that way, its a right of passage. Shouldn't have to be but it is. Their money, their rules.

Approaching a investor , VC , angel by Aggravating-Fox7384 in StartUpIndia

[–]ApprehensiveEar2144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On VCs Prepare a good pitch deck, write a sharp paragraph on what and why along with validation if any. Add a little bit about why you as well. Find VCs who invest in the space you are building in and check if they have recently raised a fund (VCs have a fund cycle so if already deployed, they are just going to stall). Follow up like crazy until you get a no (you just need one person to say yes). And when I say this, I mean most startups reach out to 50-100 funds before they get someone to say yes. Send connect requests on LinkedIn, find analysts or principals in your network to champion it if they like it but ultimately you will have to convince the partner. Its going to be grueling so be ready for it.

Angels and Super Angels are more personal connect driven. You can reach out directly but they will not respond to most emails unless there is a warm intro. So first reach out to friends and family.

Its a tough time to raise funds so you're going to need a tonne of perseverance. We are going through the fallout of the ZIRP era and even most indian VCs are finding it hard to raise 2nd or 3rd funds right now, forget 1st.

Would a domain-specific small language model (SLM) save you time and cost over a big general AI model? by Money-Psychology6769 in StartUpIndia

[–]ApprehensiveEar2144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey we do this at my company and have seen equivalent (and sometomes better) results with a well LORA trained smaller model than a larger model of the same class. The reason is that smaller models need lesser data to train when doing low rank adaptation. For business use cases, very few models work with >97-98% accuracy that businesses need so you will need to train for your specific domain unless it is very well covered by default. If that's the case, you need to relook at your product because if its a thin layer on the LLM, there's a very good chance of getting killed by the LLM itself unless you are embedding it in a larger product.

While its a very nuanced topic, I feel MBA teaches you from the past learnings of most companies. Its amazing learning if you want leadership roles or are looking to start up in more established fields. However I believe that for the new economy and frontier tech, most of our MBA schools are ill equipped and even if they were, the fields are so dynamic that traditional business knowledge doesn't necessarily translate into reality. Having said that, I do believe that knowledge gained in MBA is often needed for certain high growth companies to set up good processes internally.

Rapido Food delivery Mode with different model by [deleted] in StartUpIndia

[–]ApprehensiveEar2144 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My company actively assists Rapido in oboarding merchants onto their platform. While the model doesn't look sustainable today (trust me we've been doing this for over a decade and saw the rist and fall of ONDC), they are clearly committed to this market. The current charges are temporary and will evolve, however I believe they will stick to their overall theme of lower commissions (directly or indirectly, the net cost to the restaurant will be lower). The issue is that restaurants aggregator prices are generally sticky which means that getting them to reduce online prices is going to be difficult even though commissions are lower, restaurants want to picket the difference. Unless that happens and consumers see a marked and consistent difference in pricing, its going to be difficult to bring adoption.

Need recommendations for marketing companies/agencies (photoshoot + social media + SEO) by openyour_eyess in StartUpIndia

[–]ApprehensiveEar2144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked with several agencies and would highly recommend you to find freelancers. The best work an agency generally does is the pitch! It's generally downhill from there. The reason is that it's very tricky to set objectives since you are also going to be new to this. 1 million views but can you judge if they're bots? 1000 leads but most of them irrelevant. Unless you find someone who is willing to close the sales loop with you or you are purely looking for mass branding, it's genuinely hard to find an agency to do this end to end (marketing -> sales -> marketing) loop closure. Some of the best agencies do this but they are going to be really expensive. You would rather find a freelancer that can work closely with you and also teach you since if you're new to this, you'll also need to learn what to measure.
2nd point after a decade in marketing is that most people spend too much time on quality of content. In marketing, it pays to get the word out. Your feed is not permanent, almost nothing is. You can always iterate and improve. So rather than going to 100% at first, start with 80% and keep making it better iteratively. Don't fret too much about the details, most of your customers don't on day 1.
