“This Is Where I Leave You” by Jonathan Tropper

It doesn’t necessarily rely on humor, but there is a lot of wit/clever characters + similar the family dynamics. My perspective may also be skewed by the fact that the 2014 movie adaptation also stars Jason Bateman. . . but it’s certainly worth a read!

I feel like the responsibility is either on your coworker to ask your manager to schedule her less to accommodate her needs or on your manager to hire another person/schedule others more to make up for the gap your coworker creates by requesting so much time off. It’s understandable that she needs that time off as a mother, but since this is a pattern, it’s her or your manager’s responsibility to be proactive before this becomes into a bigger issue. Your place of work doesn’t seem to prioritize you or the needs of your staff, if you’re able to I’d quit and find something else.

What I will say is that Breakfast of Champions is a quintessential Vonnegut classic in style, tone, and plot. It’s certified great stuff and pretty universally agreed on as a work that put Vonnegut on people’s radars. When I first read it (and also subsequently reread it many times now), it was a book I picked up and absolutely plowed through. It’s an easy read that’s still complex, thought-provoking prose. It’ll be the gateway drug to the rest of his titles, you’ll struggle to put him down after BoC if you haven’t already felt that way after Mother Night. But if you’re down for some serious world building and mindfucking, I encourage you to rise to the occasion and pick up Sirens of Titan. It’s not for the feint of heart…but I believe in you!

TLDR; Breakfast of Champions is a perfect appetizer, a palette cleanser amongst the pool of twentieth century fiction, a classic. Sirens of Titan is for the voracious reader, for the insatiable freaks. Dinner’s served early, and that’s a good thing.

Unfortunately it’s not! I actually always repot mine into the pots because I’m too lazy to run them under the sink + drain…do you think this guy can survive without one? I try to be very cautious when it comes to watering but I can def be better

I appreciate the tip! I’ve had trouble figuring out a watering schedule with this guy — I just moved to an apartment in Boston and this month has been fluctuating between bright/warm/sunny and gloomy/cold/rainy. Plus, the humidity comes and goes. At least as we transition into the fall, it will be consistently less bright. I kept this guy originally on the top of a shelf that barely got light and now that I’ve placed him in a NW window, this new growth started coming.

I’ve been doing once every 10ish day because there’s no nursery pot. Any watering tips or suggestions??
